jspee1965
Hello, sorry if this is a stupid question. Is there a magic way to command a follower to actually FOLLOW you and not enter into a dialogue all the time when hitting the "E" button? It's incredibly frustrating to go through cycle after cycle of E button presses hoping one will actually result in having the option to command them to follow when they are waiting? I have tried with weapons drawn, from different distances and crouching and practically every time I get dialogue options with no FOLLOW option. What am I doing wrong??? THANKS! aurreth
They follow you by default, unless you specifically tell them (using E to bring up the command menu) to wait or move to a specific point. The follow choice only appears if you've told them not to follow you, by using the wait or go commands. But, don't expect them to just stick to your heels. One, the AI is fairly stupid. Two, they have a tendency to wander off if you stand still for too long, go use a workstation or something. Move and they'll come running to catch up. There are mods that change or even stop idle behavior, like AFT. Maybe you should look into those.
jspee1965
See that's the problem. I HAVE asked them to wait , then I want them to follow me and 9 times out of 10 when I hit the E button, I get the dialogue menu not the "follow me" option. What am I doing wrong?? aurreth
Are you using any follower mods? Something that alters the vanilla menu choices?

That's most likely a mod issue (or feature). You just need to find out which one of them.. It could be a follower mod, or maybe a dialogue interface mod.. jspee1965
Well I sort of figured it out. There seems to be an invisible box outside the follower. If I place the E target right at the extreme upper (over the head) area of the follower I can almost always get the TALK TRADE FOLLOW etc dialogue options. Writing its name here may help others who have the same problem.
SKKmods
That is not a mod its vanilla game behavior. I am doing a vanilla game run to collect some achievements and have exactly the same companion wait/follow SetCommandState dialog issue. My workaround is to use hotkeys.ini and CompanionCommand.pex as a loose file to hotkey Wait/Follow console comands which are not detectable as mods. H=cgf "CompanionCommand.ToggleHold" TL;DR: Dont jump to the conclusion that its a mod issue.

Ah, yeah, I've had that before, where the crosshairs don't actually match up with the bounding box. I usually have to aim over their right shoulder (up and to the left as your are facing them.) You can sometimes fix it by adjusting the crosshair position in the ini files, but it's hit or miss. Glad you found a workaround.
