Deleted472477User
I stupidly chose to download on Steam instead of what I was familiar with. I can't get the Steam version to recognize that I have mods, nor does it work with Nexus mod Manager. It just goes "Hurrr derp, don't see any mods!" more or less. Is there a way to make it work, or am I just screwed?
Codofwisdom
I looked at a similar topic on the Steam forums suggests using the Oblivion Mod Manager, rather than Nexus' Mod Manager.I haven't tried it, but apparently it worked for them.I bought Oblivion on Steam yesterday, and I'm waiting to find out if mods work on it before downloading it. Lanceor
NMM works just fine with the Steam version. When it comes to mods, the only difference between the Steam and the retail version is the default directory, and the way OBSE is used. If the mods don't appear in the Data Files when you launch the game, then either the mods are installed to the wrong directory, or it's Windows UAC. DrakeTheDragon
Let's also not forget the trouble caused by the far-too-recent file dates of the BSA files coming from Steam and their disabling effect on Archive Invalidation, and as such all 'replacer'-type mods in general. But using OBMM that's a matter of a single click on "Reset BSA timestamps" once inside the Archive Invalidation Utilities, right before applying BSA Redirection as the means for Archive Invalidation. As for the 'NMM or OBMM?' question... it seems even today most published Oblivion mods simply cannot be installed via the NMM, it still doesn't understand their packaging or gets confused by OMOD-ready'ness and installation scripts not meant to be interpreted by itself. That's the case for both, Steam AND retail version of Oblivion though. In this regard there's no difference.
Codofwisdom
So, are you recommending OBMM? Or am I being slow?
Hickory
So, are you recommending OBMM? Or am I being slow? For OMODs or OMOD ready archives, it (OBMM) is the only sensible solution.
bben46
While most Oblivion mods do work with NMM, Oblivion is much older than NMM and a lot of mods were made years before NMM came out. But I doubt that is your problem. First, Steam likes to install in the MS paranoia folder, also called 'Program files' where their overzealous UAC will try to block nearly anything that looks different from a store bought program that is registered with them as being not a virus. Fortunately, it is easy to move steam without having to reinstall anything.https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=231 My steam is in C:\Games\Steam and steam has no problem finding it to update or install new games. You will have to reinstall NMM, OBSE, BOSS and OBMM if you already have them installed as they all work by finding the location of the game when they are installed - and if it is moved - they get lost - be sure to uninstall them before reinstalling them. Firewall, antivirus programs and ad blockers can also cause problems when trying to use mods - most have an exceptions list that will allow them to ignore your Oblivion mods. I still play Oblivion and also prefer OBMM over NMM for Oblivion - but it is a bit more complicated for people unfamiliar with mods. You can use the NMM manual download with OBMM.first create a new folder outside of the Oblivion folder for the downloads - I use C:\Downloads\Oblivion - download mods to that folder. You can even create a separate sub folder for each mod for even finer control of your mods. Then either use OBMM to install or install manually for those few mods that don't work well with any mod manager. tisten
That is just... to much effort... XD I used to get OBMM just fine, but it's been years since then and with Skyrim I've become used to the ease of NMM. Now I just bought the Oblivion Deluxe on the Steam Sale and indeed most mods don't work... I just can't bring up the effort to relocate my steam install as you say and reinstall everything. Can you simply use OBMM? Or just install Oblivion outside of the Steam/steamapps folder? EDIT Spoke to early I guess :) I've started dabbling with the OBMM once again and it's starting to come back to me how it worked exactly. Body mods and landscape mods are now working fine when I install them through OBMM, and some mods that were working with NMM I keep using through NMM. So this is working for me now. One question though: OBSE. How do I install this? I did as the readme said for a Steam install yet it instacrashes the game and even after removal it kept my game crashed.
