randaltheturtle
I don't really know how others play video games, but the way I play them is that I am always striving for the best equipment. The things that do the most damage, or offer the best protection. But in the real world (at least in my head) people become attached to their items. If you have ever read the Eragon books, you know that people don't drop their current weapon or armor at the sight of something better. They have a weapon, and they are known for using it and they keep it. but in skyrim there is no incentive to keep your equipment. that is why I think that weapons and equipment should level with you as you use them. you should be able to name your sword, shield, and armor without having to enchant them, and as you use them, their stats should go up, to simulate you getting more used to the feel of the equipment. perhaps it could just be a passive effect that increases the damage of your weapon or your swing speed as you use it, but when you are using a different weapon, you don't have the effect, to simulate the different weight and feel of a foreign weapon. if someone felt ambitious, weapons could even have the possibility to break, the effects could go away as time passes to simulate you forgetting the feeling of your equipment. you could even have to maintain you equipment like in fallout (though im sure a mod like that already exists) but the possibilities are endless, and it would be amazing is someone could try to do this. EaglehawkAves
Oooh I know what you mean! I get attached to my weapons all the time and then get a crisis which one to use, the one I love and used the whole game or that one that is just so much better! In other video games I always kept my weapon close, even if it was worse than the other one [hence 6000 kills with one worse sniper, I just grown attached to it!]. I agree with you, weapons should also have their perks. It would be awesome if you could customize them as well, something like a better handle for the sword or a new string for the bow, and the color, name, etc. It'd also be awesome if there were unique weapons with their own story. I mean, yes, there are weapons like that, but the quests for them and the story are pretty lame. As my name suggests, I really love birds. Eagles, hawks, etc. and I prefer using the Red Eagle Sword. The story was really... dull. I do use bows more and would really like to see a unique story behind some bird themed bow. For example, a half bird half man had a legendary feather bow. The legend was his arrows contained the spirits of his fallen warriors, or better say, birds he used to attack, etc. This would be awesome and all, but even if it did exist, the weapon would be... just that. A weapon. No matter how good the story is, there will always be a BETTER bow, which annoys me. Long story short; That attachment we grow with our weapons should be more significant and shown, and you've nailed it with the leveling up your weapon with you idea. I add the idea of customizing too. Anyway, I'll start working on mods this summer, get to learn, etc. so if this doesn't get popular, I'll try and make it my first project, shouldn't be that hard, as I have a good tutor. -Aves
GrimyBunyip
I know someone who was working on a mod like this, but I guess he's busy because he never released a mod like that. Either way, I think most scripters would know how to implement a mod like this.It just seems the community's more interested in retextures, so there's probably a better use of time spend modding. Maybe an overhaul of the unique items in the game, to make them level up might make sense. Edited June 5, 2013 by GrimyBunyip

I play guitar, and I'm always wanting to change things in my instruments to make them better or improve their aesthetic appeal, and being able to do that with weapons in skyrim is an excellent idea. but hey, if you want to make the mod, do whatever you think is best.
