Things won't load...

This is kinda wierd. I've had fallout since day one, and i started a new game then and kept my saves until now. just the other day, my friend came over and I let him start a new game. The intro played, PC was born, picked a sex, name and appearance, and right at the part where Katherine (your mother) is supposed to die, nothing happens. Dad just sits there looking at you. The game isn't frozen, though, as i can open escape menu (Can't save...) Open the console etc. I thought at first that it was because of mods. So, I deactivated all of my mods and tried again. same thing. I think eventually, EVENTUALLY it may work, but then we get to the classroom scene and he decided to take the G.O.A.T, and basically the same thing happened. Teacher talks, and right when he's about to yell at butch (after you take your seat) he just stops and that's it. At that point though, i can save then load and it kinda works ok for a while, but the slides on the projector are out of sync. But I can't save/load when katherine is supposed to die, so i just get stuck there 99% of the time. Now, If this happens here, who knows what else is broken in the game... I've been playing fallout 2 for a while and i really want to finish that first, so I haven't attempted any quests or anything since starting FO2. Also, I think this might have something to do with the latest patch, but i'm not sure. Any help is appreciated

First are you running FOSE or loading the game with anything other than the Fallout 3 launcher?

If no then the first thing I'd suggest you do in this situation is re-install Fallout 3 and see if it still has problems. If yes it could possibly be a hardware issue, if no re-patch your game. If the issue appears again after you've patched it may be a patch installation issue, or a load order issue (ie Fallout 3.esm being loaded after something else - it should always be loaded first).

If everything works fine after re-installing and re-patching then it was probably an installation issue.

before reinstalling check to see if the settings are to low in the default launcher.

this happened with me when I first got the game, the launcher set it at high but in the the advanced settings everything was set to the absolute lowest. After cranking that up a bit, the game was able to progress.

Odd, I know

Nah, Honestly I've tried EVERYTHING. I know all about load order (been modding oblivion for years) I've run fallout through everything. FOSE, FOMM, the normal launcher, fallout.exe, always the same. As far as my settings, they've all always been maximum. by default lol. the only thing i haven't tried is un/reinstalling.... and I really don't want to lol. I know it's as simple as backing up my data folder, uninstalling, reinstalling and replacing the data folder, but it's annoying lol. Like I said, I'm only noticing this now, as I played through the beginning fine when i got the game, so i'm thinking it's the patch. Ok, thanks, guys. I'm gonna wait for the next patch. HOPEFULLY it'll help. If not, I'll reinstall and post back here. THANKS

if u dont wish to uninstall try defagging your harddrive with diskeeper or something o_O

Well, I have, but not just that, I JUST re-installed a fresh new copy of vista lol, so I don't think that'll help me. And yes, I de frag'd after I installed Fallout 3
