HelloStranger Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I started a new character recently, only gotten her to about level 10. I'm having a major issue, though. Whenever I try to go to any stormcloak dominated town or just pass by any stormcloaks, they are hostile to me. I thought it was the guards at first (though I have no bounty) but I'm fine at places that belong to the imperials. I haven't even started the civil war questline yet, I wanted to join the stormcloaks on this character, so I haven't done anything in the past that would set them off. In fact, I've killed a few imperials on sight. I reloaded to a save where I was level 5 and the only things I had done was the starting quest and clearing out one bandit-infested mine, and they're still hostile to me. There isn't any problem like this occurring on my other character. Can anyone help me out?
RacsoReast Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Are you sure you don't have a mod installed that causes this like "wearing faction armor causes agression"?
HelloStranger Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Actually I do, I thought that that was the issue when I first started getting attacked, because I was wearing imperial boots. (The mod is Civil War Overhaul, I installed it recently and I was eager to start the questline, but yeah, this happened instead.) I tried reloading and going in with no imperial stuff and they still attacked, so then I uninstalled the mod and it was still happening. I was running around in imperial boots and gloves for like 7 levels, though. I thought that it would only affect your faction if you did it in the presence of the opposite faction, but maybe it adds up? Wondering if I join the imperials instead and wipe out the stormcloaks if I can still have a relatively normal game on her. The losing faction at the end of the questline shrinks into camps, right? So if I takeover as imperial there's a chance I may be able to do stuff in those cities? Or is there console commands that can somehow help with this?
Georgiegril Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 The mod author states that it is impossible to completely remove the mod once you add it. The only way (as is true for many mods) is to return to a save prior to the mod's installation. There is a bunch of useful information on the discussion page for that mod, and there is information about fixing faction issues on the main discussion page.

Thank you very much for telling me! I was able to fix it. I always read (most of) the description of a mod before downloading it, to try and prevent "sorcery" from happening to me. I didn't realize the issue, if caused by the mod, would persist if I uninstalled properly, as I've never had anything in a mod remain after proper removal. Nothing obvious, at least. But then 90% of my mods are cosmetic since I'm among those scared of too many scripts, haha. But anyways I COMPLETELY missed the faction help when I was looking for information on the mod's page when I thought it was the issue. Guessed and used the imperial faction console code and happily walked through the gates of Windhelm. Figures the solution was right there the whole time. Thank you, board can be closed now. :)

I got the same issue but I cannot solve it D:
