Love the game, hated the DLC?

Ok I like Fallout 3 enough to seriously think about modding it. That said, I hated Operation: Anchorage. Absolutely hated it. For several reasons, I will touch on a few:

It was only an FPS. Yes, the idea of a simulation was cool but it boiled down to an FPS. Only instead of a true FPS it's a hacked up FPS with VATS and auto-aiming. You could not activate / pickup / modify anything except for a few glowing things. It seriously felt like a twisted Unreal.

It did not fit the theme at all. You are in a wasteland, digging through dead bodies to find ammo and blowing things up with a gatling laser. Then you go into a simulation that is just a Crysis wannabe and start blowing up commies. There was no light-heartedness to it at all, in fact there are several heavy-handed attempts to make you feel patriotic, which again is totally against theme.

It had no real effect except at the end you get some 'things'. If you take the time to do something nice at the end, you get one line of dialogue and a 'piss off Wastelander'. Not to mention they say they will 'catalog' the remainder, except once you take everything there's nothing in there at all.

Am I totally off here? Did you guys like it? It seems like the main draw was 'get cool stuff'. Which also happens to be game breaking because you can hike down there at lvl 2 and grab the best melee weapon, the best ranged weapon, the best armor (with added power armor perk that the DLC provides), and a stealth suit for nothing more than running through an fps with ammo/weapons provided. I did it with a brand-new character due to mods installed and I wanted it to be fresh, and I was lvl 9 and unstoppable by the time I left.

I hope, really hope, that this is not the direction of future DLC. I hated it and if I could take back my purchase, I would. Doubly so for making me go through that piece of crap Game for Windows Live.

Tell me I'm way off base, please. Because I wanted to like it. I really did.

Operation Anchorage simulation was a simulation to "Train" Soldiers before Taking them to the Anchorage front line. "Before they had to Repel the Chinese". as "General Chase" says:

"Good work soldier, you have completed this course of your training...". this somehow explains that the simulation was only a training Scheme. OA Was a good DLC, but it wasn't worth 10$.(actually 800 MP Lol!)

I enjoyed it, if just for seeing what the scientist was going on about in his logs on one of the computer terminals in the outpost... He said that the program had evolved past being a true training program and included changes that that were both inaccurate and ludicrous. (Sure, it may have been Bethesda covering themselves for making a pure FPS for FO3, but it was still a nice touch.)

Overall, I had fun playing it, and in the end it was worth the $10, if only to have access to what mods will make use of the assets, including a few player-made simulations I've heard some talk about on the Bethsoft boards. Bethsoft pretty well knows their best content is player-made, which is why people are still playing a first-person RPG that's years old...

I liked all but the first part. when you're first dropped in..that well up until you get outside to the guns..that part was fun..but otherwise the first part of it...meh

and I agree that it shouldn't be available so soon..it gives too much..too soon..for those that haul it there asap.

though..the gause rifle sucks :P

i have just played and beat the dlc that my friend downloaded. i have to say it would be fine if this were a call of duty game but since its fallout it doesnt feel like the game we have all come to love. i like being able to loot dead bodies pick up stuff i really dont need and explore my surroundings. instead i walk around and run into this blue pulsating wall that does nothing but piss me off. why on earth does the worldmap in the simulation show such a vast area that you can explore but you are only restricted to a few meters. in my opinion it wasnt though out long enough. and on a side note to all of those reading this do not i repeat DO NOT take all the items that are in the vault you just unlocked because they will attack you for it. (didn't get killed but it was a nasty suprise.) not worth the money and my friend got boned. and he will never stop hearing that from me.

Well it was bad prety much I am kind of a fan of the gause rifle but for what the weapon would actully be its underpowered hahahaha. I mean really is a magnetically propelled projectile that is able to peirce tank armor at a range or 20+ miles. Humm why does it only knock my targets back sometimes and how can I miss?

Any who I had to reinstall FO3 and guess what OPA will have to be beat again but I am so not doing it in a legit way so cheats this time haha. And to white_dragon same thing happened to me but I loaded it up before I took the items and took every thing again and it was fine.
