The Goddess shook her great head after the cook had grabbed her beak. Though several people grabbed at her or manage to grab her temporarily, the Goddess in winged form flapped her great wings, kicking up a considerable amount of flour and flew high up toward the rafters.

*Best thing about these human buildings is the heights. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out this is why their heating bill is so high?* The Goddess landed on one of the massive pieces of wood and peered down with irritation. She began cleaning her feathers though she was having issues telling flour from the stripe she had.

*I need a way to contact my Knights.* The Goddess muttered to herself. *There has to be a bowl of water somewhere in this human place which is not in this bloody kitchen.* With that thought she flapped her large wings, kicking up a cloud of flour and glided off to find such a thing.

The Pegasus reached the coast of Nexonia, no royal ships spotted her as she slipped into a deserted cove. The captain called a council of war in his stateroom. "We are sailing blind, we need more information. We can't just go up the the palace and knock on the gates. The Goddess is wise and crafty she will get in touch with us, we only need to be ready." He turns to his first mate Heather and tells her to set watch a the ships shrine and place an offering of the blessed kibble next to the basin. "We will wait, the captain said firmly, she will make her wishes known. Set a double watch and for goddess's sake tell the crew to be quiet, no unnecessary noise, tell Keiren Light Paws I have a special assignment for her." Heather nodded in agreement and headed above deck.

The Lord High Executioner, fortified by the magical treats of fire and ice, overcame the last of his sausage-induced stupor. Leaning heavily on the captain of the guard, he reached into one of the hidden pockets in his robe for the scrap of paper that had brought him from his comfy prison tower out into the part of the palace where strangers or visiting tradespeople might fetch a fright at a walking skeleton in a robe. Still, this is important.

"Thankyou Captain for your kind words,

but I'm no longer seeing imaginary birds.

Although my shoulder feels strangely weird,

I think my collar bone has disappeared."

Very strange, I'm sure I had it when I went into the kitchen, that imaginary sausage bird was sitting on it. Oh well, there's more important things afoot.

Seeing the Queen, he stepped forward to bask in the Regal presence, clutching the, now soiled and tattered, note.

"Your Majesty I have some news to relate,

One of those pirates did speak, before he met his fate.

Though I had some trouble understanding his words,

Since Ploppy, the jailor, had split his face into thirds.

He spoke of Magic and a treasure so great,

But the condemned will say anything to avoid their fate.

This one was different, he said he had hidden a map,

He soon told me where when I made his bones snap.

I had to clean it up when I made it mine,

The varlet had stuck it where the sun doesn't shine.

There's some stew on it now and a paw print I think,

It must have got soiled when I passed by the sink."

Holding out the tattered scrap for Her Majesty to see, the Lord High Executioner wondered why his shoulder felt so light.

Auriana took the note gingerly, with a bit of a grimace after the executioner described all of the gruesome activities done to it.

"Treasure and magic, you say?" she raised an eyebrow, "And around here?"

  • 2 weeks later...

Keiren 'Soft Paws' left the captain's cabin with her mission in hand, she thought that this will be simple... the Palace Guards are notoriously lax after their evening meal and mead. She rowed ashore in the ship's longboat and landed near the point lighthouse. It took several days to reach the palace, it was a moonless night and the guards were asleep. Keiren knew what needed to be done. Stealthily she climbed up a nearby oak and waited for a signal, though she wished for a short cat nap but she waited with quiet vigilance.

Our intrepid Lady in Waiting, fearing the worst, decided to venture out onto the grounds of the palace. Things had been awfully quiet for a time, and she had a sinking feeling in her well endowed gut. Where were the guards?? Where were the soldiers?? Where were the marksmen?? Come to think of it, where the Devil was she???? She had never been to this particularly dark and dreary area of the grounds, and there was not a soul in sight. She could not even hear that dreadful bird and it's infernal squawking. Something was most definitely amiss....

The Goddess flew around the castle, making a nuisance of herself. She flew into and out of rooms at breakneck speed, wings knocking things off desks and dressers, she dove above and below beds. She flew out opened windows and into others, pulling the covers off one couple that clearly were not ready to get out of bed...all in search of a decent bit of water.

She thought, while hopping under one bed that she was successful then the yellowed water in the porcelain bowl was too cloudy and rancid for scrying.

Finally The Raven Goddess sat...at an open window above an oak tree, taking her great beak and preening her feathers while she thought.

*Perhaps I should find that sausage-addled jailer and convince him to write me a letter?*

Suddenly, in one black eye she caught a movement in the tree. Thinking perhaps it was some rodent to eat...she turned her great beak to get a better look. Hopping out of the window she opened great wings and soared downward...landing quietly at the end of a branch.

Hop...hop hop....closer and closer to the furry swaying object...then she dove in grabbing the moving fur....

Getting ready to gulp it down she looked up to see it was connected to a much, much larger body....and a familiar face that stared unblinking.

*Soft Paws?* The Goddess asked trying to lay down, in a nonchalant manner, the tail caught firmly in her beak.

Soft Paws had been waiting several hours when she spied movement from one of the keep towers, a majestic raven which suddenly erupted from one of the upper windows . The raven flew directly to her oak and just as suddenly grabbed her tail upon landing, with astonishing speed her tail was in the raven's beak much to Soft Paws dismay. Then the raven spoke "Soft Paws?". Soft Paws immediately realized that this must be one of the Goddess's disguises, for some reason the Goddess preferred shape shifting into a Black Raven. "M'lady, I have been sent her to rescue you but that seems unnecessary now, would you mind unhanding my tail?" The Raven laughed quietly and released her tail. "M'lady the Pegasus awaits your pleasure and is anchored in a cove less than twenty five miles northwest of here as the crow flies, if you will pardon the expression." Then Soft Paws had a cunning idea. M'lady if you would be so kind to relay a message to the captain upon your arrival? Tell him to make haste with a shore party while I stay here and observe the habits of our target. Soft Paws outlined her plan to the Goddess who seemed dryly amused. The raven lifted off and flew high into the night sky heading northwest. Soft Paws settled into a comfortable position as she watched Grannywils Duchess of Dalmatia stroll beyond the safety of the keep below, she was unmistakeable wearing her infamous Dalmatian coat. I wonder what sort of ransom she would be worth? thought Soft Paws to herself, quietly purring in her perch.

"What was that God awful sound", she said to herself, at the sudden flapping of wings and squawking and hissing overhead. "There are feathers and fur and all matter of foul and fearsome fluff floating down from above. I'd best hie myself back to safety as quickly as my pretty little pedicured feet can manage. She promptly tripped over an overly large root and tumbled butt over teakettle, only being brought up short by the fortunate existence of a very old and very ugly dead tree trunk, and realized that she was surely most inappropriately attired for a foray such as this one, and decided that discretion being the better part of valor she'd best saunter quietly back to her rooms to change into something a bit more comfortable. And so she did.

The Queen-to-be folded the note again and stuffed it into a dress pocket to bring up sometime later. For now, it was getting rather late...and her Fashion Advisor had yet to return with a repaired gown. Auriana visibly frowned. If that cat shredded one more item, she would deal with it herself...

The guards had all finally managed to get into position, austere expressions on their faces - ironic, considering the ridiculous footwear they were all sporting. Auriana's thoughts trailed again, this time to the Royal Janitor. After all, he had been tasked with getting the musicians, and he, too, had yet to return.
