DreamOfTheRood

The current issue of SPIN has a fake contest where you have to create your own band of musicians. Inspired by this, I sat down to dream up my own band, and here's what I have so far. After you've read mine, feel free to create your own.

Microphone 2: Diamond David Lee Roth

Guitar 2: Deryck from Sum 41

I'm going to add some stipulations to this.

These are guitarists you can't use:

1) Eddie Van Halen

2) Jimmy Page

3) Stevie Ray Vaughn

4) Jimi Hendrix

5) Yngwie Malmsteen

6) Jeff Beck

7) Steve Vai

8) Joe Satriani

Here are drummers you can't use:

1) the guy from the Dave Matthews Band

2) Jon Bonham

3) Jessie Smith

Here are bassists you can't use:

1) Flea

2) Jaco

Here are some bands that you can't draw people from:

1) Led Zepplin

2) Black Sabbath

Don't use people from bands that haven't put out albums in the last twenty years.

Vocals: Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Guitar Player: Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits.

Guitar solo writer: Brian May of Queen, because although he's not the best technically, he could write wonderful and meaningful guitar solos and still keep them simple.

Bass player: no clue. Maybe Cliff Burton of Metallica, because he could also compose great pieces with classical influences like Orion.

Drummer: well, since I can't choose Jon Bonham, I'd say... hmmm... Ian Paice from Deep Purple.

All kinds of flutes: Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, who would also help composing songs.

Lyricists: King Crimson's Peter Sinfield, and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

Musical arrangement and orchestration by Freddie Mercury, Queen.

Wait, how come Led Zeppelin and flea are being taken out, what does that have to do with anything? As well as Dave Matthews Band?

Because they're the best, and everyone would use members from that band and think, "Oh, I'm being so original. Nobody else would think of using Led Zepplin."

The point is to be creative.

Here's my second dream band:

Microphone 1: Thom Yorke of Radiohead

Guitar 1: Matthew Bellamy of Muse

Guitar 2: Brett Detar of the Juliana Theory

Bass: Shawn Koschik of Zao

Drums: David Husvik of Extol

Keyboards: Paul Mac of the Disassociatives

Lol... well, if you want to remove all groups that can be considered, or have been considered, "the best" in their genres, you'd have to remove Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, The Eagles, CSN&Y and TONS of others... hmmmm... in the end, after you'd removed everyone, you can pick members from Sun Ra, the Righteous Brothers, and The Frigus Project for your dreamband ;)

My point is, not everyone considers Led Zeppelin to be THE BEST EVER, so your assumption is unfair. You can't state that "Led Zeppelin are the best" as if it was a proven scientific fact. I like Led Zeppelin as I love classic rock, but there are some other groups I love much more than them.
