Guest deleted6846304
This here is my first post, I really hope I'm not reposting something that's been resolved already, I've done my best to try and find a solution, so rest assured this is a last resort. For the record I have Archive Invalidation Invalidated installed, as well as OBSE20, fast exit and crash mod. I've intalled a decent amount of mods, including HGEC, EVE, BBB, All Natural, Better Cities, DarNified Menus, COBL (with races) and a ton of clothing, armor, etc, I think around 90 in total. I was new to this all about a month ago and so wasn't totally surprised when odd things started happening: randomly, entering a room, various textures would just be black, usually the floor, and possibly other textures, such as silver clutter, various pieces of clothing or armor (both custom and vanilla), even the sky. As well, the textures that are supposed to appear around menus (like that old paper texture) would be blank (white). At one point, even loading screen backgrounds would be white, and then I also lost my local menu. When the game would crash when going through certain doors (again not all the time), things became unstable so I did a complete reinstall. Things are much better now, but I just walked into Divine Elegance and again, the floor is black, that chick behind the counter's shirt is black, and a jade amulet sitting on the counter in front of her is black too. Again, I open the shop menu and the border background texture is white and missing. I went outside, and the sky is black. I went back in and the same objects are still black. It seems to be random, and I think that it goes away when I exit and reopen the program (until it randomly reappears). The places and objects it seems to affect also don't really seem to be constant except for the floors, and the variety of things - clothing, objects, the sky, floors, menus - that are affected don't really seem to suggest a particular mod. I reinstalled the Official Oblivion Shaders but they are the same as the ones already in there apparently. I use OBMM to install mods from archives because it's just easier to manage them, and I use Wyre Bash and BOSS to order them and build a patch. I can provide this (sorry I'm not right now, Oblivion is on the other computer and I'm actually just rebuidling the patch now). Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks in advance, this is my first time ever modding anything, and I gotta say the modder community is epic. Sorry, brief update: Also, it IS installed into the Program Files (x86) directory because I didn't notice the warning not to do that until after I had already gotten everything in place (took an entire day). However, I have the UAC disabled and haven't seen anything so far to suggest that's an issue. (I could be wrong, just giving my two cents) Edited July 20, 2013 by mjxshipton
Guest deleted6846304
Just an update, reloaded the game, sure enough, the sky is fine, I went back into Divine Elegance and it's all good... then I tried changing armor, and one of the custom armor sets I have (Seraphim armor) is having the black texture problem. However, the OTHER set of Seraphim armor isn't. My local map is again transparent (but still has markers), the load screen background image is blank, and I went into the Mystic Emporium and the rugs, tapestries and vanilla clothes are black. Went back outside and the sky is black again too... ¯\(°_o)/¯ Edited July 20, 2013 by mjxshipton
Hickory
What is your graphics card, and how much VRAM does it have?
Guest deleted6846304
I was wondering if may that was a factor. I'm actually running a laptop, it's a bit old but never had any trouble with vanilla Oblivion. It's a Radeon Mobile 4570 with 256MB of VRAM. I try not to max out the graphics settings, but, do you think if I reduced graphics settings sufficiently the issue would subside?

With only 256MB of VRAM Oblivion is always going to struggle graphically. You definitely need to reduce your graphic settings, and lower the screen resolution, too. HondaTrip
I used to have similar problems and found that defragging and restarting fixed it immediately every time. I started defragging every night while I sleep and haven't had this problem in months.
