Crash on age transition

Fellow plebeians! Start-up is no longer an issue for me, thankfully, but now I am burdened with the heavy heart brought upon by a CTD during the age transitions of childhood. I never knew puberty could be this powerful.

I may have a few mods installed, but I am both baffled and bewildered as to which could be the instigator of such heinous and programmed laziness. I take full responsibility for the game's reprehensible behaviour, yes, but that does not mean I shall simply leave it as it is!

If you could but take a gander at my load order and, with your comparably vast experience in game modification, perchance tell me as to which .esp or .esm could be making my childhood so painful, please do tell.

Yes, I know that there are mods that skip directly to the least squelchy bits of pixelated pubescence. I have one already.

tl;dr Crashing after the 6 years later.bik fades out. Never gets to James' dialogue. Happened before I re-BOSS'd my load order after the 9 years later.bik, but now it's back, and it wants bloody, bloody revenge.

Hi PocketShy,

wow your load order is very huge, and imo most part of problem, btw my suggest is:

1 - deselect all mods

2 - make a new game and try to arrive at the vaul exit, manually save

3 - if work, reselect your mods, run boss and then create a merge patch with Fo3 Edit

4 - finger cross, run the game and load the save in the wasteland

Good luck,

PS:you maked a multicore fix and large address fix? if not made it for first thing.

Heh, yeah. I keep playing, keep looking up mods, and, wouldn't you know it, they're too shiny to pass up. I was actually going to try that, actually, deselecting them all and starting clean. I was just hesitant because I was turning into a bit of a dragon with my accumulated mods: didn't want to give any of them up. Silly, I know.

Being rather new to the modding world and, therefore, reliant on simple measures, I'm not quite sure what a multicore fix or large address fix is. I'll look those up, probably to end up using them.

For now, I'll report back on my findings. Re-enabling those on my load order causes strange textures to appear in mid-air and a semi-immediate CTD. Phooey. From here, there's nothing much more I can do but go back to individual testing, I guess.

For getting your game set-up, see this posting: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/

Large Address Aware Enabler: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/6510/

The beginning sequences are used mostly as a tutorial to explain how to use the controls for the game. They were made before any DLCs or mods. Therefore, having the DLCs and mods active while progressing through the beginning might cause problems. I found that I could not progress past the birth scene with my mods and DLCs active. It took me a while to figure this out since it was over a year since I had started from the beginning. I had started new games but they were all from a save just before exiting the vault. So, from my experience, disable all mods and DLCs (unless you are using a mod that changes somethng in the beginning), play through just before exiting the vault and make a save. Re-enable your mods and DLCs and exit the vault and make another save. You should be able to proceed from this point.

Thank you for these links. I'll definitely use them.

When I wrote earlier that I was CingTD on re-enabling the mods, it was when I was already outside of the Vault, which, frankly, baffles me. I thought that I had worked out a pretty good list before, but I guess I really am dumber than I look. That's why I'm going to re-enable one at a time, in order to pick out the offending mod. At least, once I get some real work done.

I'll post my findings after tinkering with this a bit, if anyone's remotely curious. Until then, thank you for giving me these steps. I honestly hadn't heard of some of these functions, which is weird, considering I've been lurking on these forums and in comments for a while.

Normally I would be all over this issue, given that I deal with such things specifically in my modding, but I don't see anything that I recognize as being a potential cause in your load order. There are quite a few plugins there that are foreign to me, however.

What race are you selecting in the birth sequence when you get the crash during the age transition?

This time I chose to play as a Caucasian female, not picking one of the child races. It was never my intention to start as a child, even though that capability was included in one of the mods I have. I forget which.

I haven't had time to play around with the mods individually yet, and while I meant to download the Large Address Aware Enabler today, it seems that today is another "down" day for the server. Or maybe just for Washington DC 2, I've only tried once. However, I mean to get to testing by at least the end of the day, seeing as how I have a lot of free time now.

Okay. The Heroes mod was what was causing the crash, which I'm fine with. Wasn't 100% invested in it, and so I'm not that disappointed to see it go. We'll see if gameplay becomes spotty or whatnot, and how many crashes I'll have to deal with from here on out. That's okay.

In other news, the menu music keeps looping in-game. Not sure if I should make another topic for this or what.
