jayrichardm
I used to be able to grow Garlic. For some reason you can no longer plant garlic in Skyrim. Does anybody know why? I've verified that it is not being caused by a mod.
anjenthedog
Not sure how may different places you've tried, but planting locations are specific in what they can grow. Or another way... Not all plots and pots behave the same.
nt5raham
In my experience, garlic has always been an ingredient that must be found and never grown. The exception might be a mod that allows a "neverending garlic harvest" from a single braid. I've never seen a mod that allows growing garlic, but I guess it is possible.. I've never seen a mod that allows growing garlic, but I guess it is possible..the player homes (hearthfire et al) all usually have at least some plots that support garlic growing, either standard garden plots or pots. and there are addon mods for the heartfire homes that provide more opportunity. Also the garden hoe allows planting anywhere and afaik includes garlic in its plantable list PS> for a particularly rich ability to garden, check out the waterview homes, one east of Riften, one south of Bruma. I wonder why the link I provided to the Wiki did not mention that under "Locations"... Kidding aside, I've tried all over the world, in vanilla locations as well as modded, and never found a place that would allow the player to plant garlic. The following page has a full list of what can be grown in either a greenhouse or outside garden in the Hearthfires home: Greenhouse | Elder Scrolls | Fandom See also Skyrim:Garlic - The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP) P.S. The Waterview homes (and her other mods) look awesome! Not sure how I've missed them all this time!

Not all plots and pots behave the same. That isn't it. I have a few old play throughs where I still have garlic growing where I can no longer plant garlic now. Something has changed the game. Example, Heljarchen Farm a Bethesda mod where I've always planted a row of seven garlic plants. Now those same plots won't accept garlic seed. The only thing I can think of that would do that is the USSEP, but I'm not going to accuse them of that because they are supposed to be fixing bugs, not creating them. Garlic is ubiquitous As I noted Waterview allows copious growling space and both homes offer the ability to grow garlic on nearly every plot space. And there are dozens of other player homes that allow it. And of course, there's that "garden anywhere" mod which allows it. dunno what happened to whichever spots you can't grow garlic on, maybe an overwritten mesh/et from some other mod you installed, idk. I didn't know that I can grow garlic at the Waterview properties. Since they are the only places where I can grow WV plants, that is the only things I've ever grown there. I have one other property that still accepts garlic, at Seapoint Settlement on the far West side of the map. Those are some good options that you brought up. So you're not seeing this same problem. I guess it could be something I've done. I'll play with my load order and see if I can figure out what is doing it. Thanks for your response my friend. anjenthedog
Well, I have around 600 garlics in stock right now, so yeah, I have no issues growing it. This is from only a dozen or so plants at a couple properties. (you can really only use so much and my harvests usually produce at least 2 per plant and they grow back) Fwiw, I've found that Waterview Skyrim (nearish to Riften) has the best options for growing, since it covers both WV stuff and regular for almost all of its plots, although waterview Cyrodil has a large amount of used flat ground that is very amenable to using Farm Everywhere Enhanced SSE Edition to augment the grow space. I have an orchard as well as about two dozen extra "regular" grow spaces using that (granted the mod only allows a subset of what waterview allows itself. The cyrodil waterview version is also a bit more selective about what can grow where. But both locations support garlic directly. One full planting of eithers' garden would yield a hundred or more garlics (presuming you had enough to fully plant in the first place) . To account for low initial numbers in inventory, plant one (or two or three or whatever you have), then use its yield to pant more spaces until you have a a dozen or so planted. Then just let them grow, pick them when they get ripe, and let them grow back to maturity in a few days. Both have a copious number of garden spaces though, so for anyone who uses gardening, they're a great choice (presuming they don't interfere with some other player home you have installed), especially with the added capabilities they have in terms of crafting, which afaik spans every type There are also addons for the Hearthfire homes that provide added garden space which can grow it too. (their inbuilt gardening abilities are minimal, but again support garlic... at least Heljiarchen and Lakeview) ... look for the "pool and hot bath" addons prepending the mod search with the name (ie< "skyrim special edition helijarchen pool hot" for a widenet search, or just a subset for a nexus search. since you're already working within the SE environment here) Peregrine Hiighwatch also allows garlic growing, as do a couple of others I have. I would assume any home mod (worth having) with planting would provide spaces available for garlic, since it's a native skyrim item and is used for both food prep and alchemy

I still can't plant garlic there. So I know that my problem is not being caused by another mod or USSEP. You mentioned a plant list. There wasn't a plant list in the Peregrine Highwatch folder. Is there a generic plant list I can check to see what is in it, and if so where would it be? You gave me the motivation to finally load the Bruma mod and I checked out the Waterview home there. Bruma looks like it's going to be an interesting place. I owe you for that.
