So I tried that and HUZZAH! It still won't work....

C:\Program Files (x86)\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim\Data\sound\fx\mus\bard\PlayableInstrumentsCustom

The File size is 1.04MB, it says keep it under 1.4MB so it is safe..... I am absolutely not getting this. I have no idea why it isnt working... I am getting really frustrated with this.

I don't actually use Custom Songs, but if you just want to play music try Become a Bard as well.

I would also recommend Malukahs Song replacers.

and New Bard Songs

P.S. So it's working now? Where did you put them?

You see, Become and Bard and Play and Bash are SO good, they are really worth the effort. But as they do similar but different things, they can be a bit complicated to get used to, especially if you have both at once. I read the readmes and made brief notes and a table and then posted a review at a friends group. I really needed to do that to separate them in my mind as they work in different ways and do different things, but are very complementary to each other.

They go in the steam folder. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\sound\fx\mus\bard\PlayableInstrumentsCustom). The thing is when I made them I named them BardVoiceCustom1 instead of BardVoiceCustom01 and so on, and that minor syntax problem caused it to fail to read.

Now I am just working on finding songs that fit better into the setting. Things that last like a minute and only use one voice and maybe a guitar (acoustic) or drum. I really like the idea of being a period appropriate bard. I may replace one or two of the files with jokes, but I am thinking about adding music from "Game of Thrones" because "Rains of Castamere" makes me so god damn excited.

Okay the next step in becoming a proper bard, I require Bardish looking clothing. I see some fancy looking clothing in the videos for play and bash and pictures and stuff but cant seem to find any of these mods. I want to look like the guy in my profile pic.

That's a GUY?

I thought it was a girl!

What a milk drinker!

There are a lot of bizarre clothing mods. I have a friend who specialises in them and does "Fashion Parade" screen shots on her page for a laugh. But she doesn't make mods herself.

I'll ask her if she knows of any Dandy Fop mods suitable for a Bard... Hee hee!

Do you have Apachii Skyhair for the foppish Barnet?

And if you install Become a Bard, there are a lot of suitable songs in there. But I can understand you not wanting to use it after the author assumed you were doing the old Shiver Me Timbers...

Sorry, just got my computer back. GF has been on it all damn week almost. Really the reason I want to use P&B is because I saw something that said if you play a song from Songs of Skyrim that opposes a faction you will get them to attack you, and I want to confirm that first. Still haven't found the damn book....

Lol, omg this is too funny. He is Prine Edward Chris von Muir from Final Fantasy IV.

I dont know of any good hair mods, been looking for one though.

I dont mind Become a Bard, but I want the ability to incite foes with my music.

Well, you cannot play the instruments in Sneak mode to do that until Speech skill hits 60. I just got there and I am not sure if Speech perks and Illusionist perks affect it, but the spell-like effects are based on NPCs of level 9. Hopefully, this will be boosted by the Illusionist perks when I get them.

Plus, the effects don't happen until you finish the song, so short songs would be the best (10-15 seconds). I made some from the drum into of Stargazer (Rainbow), the guitar riff from Tabazan (Killing Joke) and the flute from Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin). But unfortunately, custom songs do not have the magick effect. I am trying to work out which of the default tunes are used by Play and Bash to see if I can swap them as the Enigmatic Songs do not seem to cause the effects. And it's not been updated for a year, so probably never will.

I thought they would be overpowered compared with the equivalent spells, but I first tired them in the market place at Riften (my Bard was level 19, Speech 60, Illusion 22) and the Fury Lute only affected a pigeon and a sparrow! I couldn't work out what was going on then I realised the guards were shooting at something from "SkyBirds - Airborne Perching Birds" sitting on top of a flag pole!

I tired again in the tavern, and two extra NPCs from Immersive NPCs went hostile and got killed. Then I tried in the Bannered Mare at Whiterun and one of the Barbarians went nuts and got bludgeoned into submission four times before it wore off.

Even though they get the red glow, no one runs away when panicked, and when you cast calm they glow and you get comments like "What are you trying to pull!?"

So, so far, those AD&D-like Bardsong effects are not exactly life-savers. But, generally, being able to perform as a Bard is worth it anyway.

I installed the Jester's armour mod, but not had a chance to craft it yet. Shame there are no loose, baggy, Errol Flynn shirts, tight leather trousers and curly-toed winkle-picker shoe mods for your FFIV bard!

I can also recommend the PC game "A Bard's Tale" if you haven't played it. If you can't find the disk I think you can get it from GOG (don't know about Steam). That one is a REALLY good bard character game.
