DarthOmnis
I recently got Fallout 3: GotY off of Steam because my GotY disc version is broken. For some reason when I try to install FOOSE I am unable to start a new game, it instantly CTD's. This is with no other mod active and a fresh install. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with where FOOSE looks for its information but I don't want to start messing with things and end up making it worse. Any ideas are appreciated. On a side note I downloaded FOOSE for NV and that game works fine, it's also through steam.
M48A5
Please follow these instructions to correct your problem. http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/ Fallout 3 is not a Steam game, Fallout: New Vegas is a Steam game. That why FOSE will work with New Vegas and not Fallout 3.
luthienanarion
Fallout 3 is not a Steam game, Fallout: New Vegas is a Steam game. That why FOSE will work with New Vegas and not Fallout 3.I don't know where you get your info from, but this is completely false. FOSE works exactly the same on Steam distributions of Fallout 3 as it does on disc versions. If you installed the game again, you'll have to re-apply the muticore fix in your INIs. M48A5
Fallout 3 was never a Steam game and FOSE was not set up to work within the Steam framework without extra steps being taken to get it to work. New Vegas is a Steam game and NVSE was set up to allow it to work within the Steam framework without taking any extra steps to get it to work within the Steam framework.Since the default installation of Fallout 3, through Steam, is in Program FIles, the Windows UAC will not allow FOSE to work. You have to move the game out of Program Files or disable the UAC. That is all explained in the link I provided.
JimboUK
If the OP has Steam in the program files then it would be best to move it, it's very easy to do and will solve a lot of problems. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129
DarthOmnis
I've moved it per the forums directions but FOOSE still CTD's the game.Going to try a full re-install of game without the fallout.ini changes see if I can at least play it without unofficial addons... luthienanarion
Odd that I have Steam's Fallout 3 installed within the Program Files folder and FOSE works fine with UAC enabled, since it wasn't designed to work with it and all... Hell, I even run Windows 8! My machine must be magical or something! ...or I know what I'm talking about and none of that makes any difference. If your game is crashing, it's not caused by UAC, Steam, or even FOSE. DarthOmnis: you were not very clear about what point the game is crashing at, so I'm assuming that the game simply won't launch. There are a few things you must do after installing the game before running it the first time via FOSE: 1. Run the Launcher once to set the graphical-settings defaults for your hardware and generate configuration files. 2. Make sure that either GFWL is installed--Steam will not take care of that when installing the game--or that you apply the 'fake' xlive.dll hack from FOMM's Tools menu. I recommend using FOMM's fake DLL because GFWL is cancerous. 3. If your CPU has more than 2 cores, apply the multi-core fix. Not doing this will cause the game to crash--most notably during the birth scene when starting a new game. 4. Install FOSE to the same directory as the game's executables. Steam's default installation location (on 64-bit versions of Windows) is C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3 goty\ 5. Use the fose_loader.exe executable to launch the game. Make a shortcut to it, give it a fancy icon, or whatever. The desktop shortcut created by Steam and the Fallout 3 Launcher will not run FOSE. The FOSE launcher will not load Steam's in-game overlay, and it will not load GFWL. If your game still crashes, or I've miscalculated when it crashes, let me know.
