dragonlord987
I really hate it when this site gets an error and I lose everything I just wrote. it happens literally every time I try to post something on this site. I recently watched a video by Gophervids over on YouTube. It described a problem i just tested and discovered I had. I have not played skyrim in nearly 3 weeks because I kept crashing and no matter what I did I could not fix the problem except by reducing my mod count. I am not using to much of my CPU, power, graphics card or anything. heck I have 64 Gb of ram. In all I would say I was using 45% or so of my system's power. I am hoping that someone will either be able to extend or remove this limit. here is a link to the video so Gopher can explain it better then I can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyTDCCCYuZk
Lanceor
Nothing can be done about the RAM limit. Skyrim is a 32 bit program which can only support a theoretical maximum of 4 GB on a 64 bit system. With the various overheads, the practical limit is closer to 3.1 GB. The limit is not going to go away unless Bethesda recompiles it as a 64 bit program... which they're not going to do as it is a monumental task with no financial payoff. bben46
If the game industry ever catches up to reality. I could see 64G of ram being useful. Right now they are fixated on consoles that are about 10 years behind the capability of PCs. We need a real 64 bit multithreading game to show just what more than 3.1G of ram, a CPU with more than a single processor, and a GPU that can handle the latest standards can do. dragonlord987
I kinda figured that would be the case. I was hoping there would be someone out there with some neat little trick or way to trick the system or something like that but I was not getting my hopes up, too high. I wonder if there is anyway we could start a petition or something to get them to recompile it as 64-bit. Heck I would be willing to donate 2k. If we raise enough money im sure that would take care of the financial payoff part. Or, and this is just me spit-balling, but how much would it cost for someone to recompile the game themselves? make it so you need to have skyrim already installed to use it but make it so it either is or runs like a 64-bit program. I do not have any real skill at modding and recompiling the game into a 64-bit format is way beyond me ATM. if you guys are willing to wait 3 years I think I could handle it, but if someone else is willing to take the time I am willing to pay. if anyone thinks they can handle it and is interested then contact me so we can talk pricing. Again not getting my hopes up, this is just an offer if anyone thinks they can handle it. if no one replies or contacts me about the offer then it was not meant to be, yet. thenobody0
64 GB of RAM? Holy cow. Why?Call it foresight. But by the time it becomes the norm we'll probably be on DDR8 and no one will make DDR3 anymore (it will also probably be too slow).
