CTD on Save becoming Unbearable

Well, this is my last attempt at solving this issue. I just start the game now, save once, and it CTD's giving me another TMP file. So ignore the message about this mods because SOMETHING is screwing my game up beyond playability. I may just have to give up on Skyrim completely, which is going to literally crush me. I honestly want to break my PC in half and just start screaming everywhere. This issue is beyond annoying and I don't know if ANYTHING could fix it. If it persists, then I'm officially done with Skyrim because I cannot play it without mods, and even then it'll still probably crash on a save.

Well, here is something I think you did not try-- The STEP Revert to Vanilla Guide?

Before I started using it, I had a couple instances of files somehow being left after I thought I had removed everything, and causing me a bit of trouble. Also, I had to delete the backups from the Steam backup file.
The other thing--are you making any changes one at a time--mods, ini changes, graphics settings, everything? Then running BOSS (if its a mod) and playing a bit to test for performance and stability?

WHen you do this, as soon as you notice a problem, stop, reread the mod page, make sure your have all the required mods and non of the mods that are known to conflict. If you really want that mod, you may need to make some concessions elsewhere. if you remove a mod, go back to the complete save from just before you added it.

 

Since I thought we were onto something before, I didn't point out that your pref.isi file is just a small piece. If you could copy/paste your current .ini files. pref.ini files, and also give some more info on your computer (CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, Driver version, any changes you have made to your GPU driver game profile for skyrim). It might also help to have your processor speed and hard drive info.

 

It could also be related to your computer using your RAM for other processes/services/apps. What version of Windows are you using? How are you keeping unnecessary background programs/processes/apps from running?

Thank you again for the response. I verified the Steam Files and it seems to be working fine now. I've been playing for like an hour without the CTD on save glitch, which is a ray of hope. I will post my ini's below. As for all the computer related things(CPU, GPU, etc.) where can I find them? I use this PC for work, gaming, and just watching videos/movies online, so it's multipurpose. Overall, I'm a total moron when it comes to computers LOL. But if you tell me where I can find the information, then I'll post that also. As for background programs, I minimize Mozilla Firefox, but other than that I don't have anything else running(except for Steam, although it isn't noted as running on my Taskbar). I also use Cleanmem, which com es with a minimonitor on the side of my screen, and it runs itself every 15 minutes or so to help with the 3.1 GB issue. Like I said, verifying the cache SEEMS to have stopped it for now, but who knows? Just in case here are my ini's

The first thing I would do is shut off Firefox entirely when you are gaming. I use it, love it, but it is a massive memory sucker. Minimizing really doesn't decrease it's memory use. If your problem is memory related, simply closing Firefox might be all it takes.

 

You can find your computer specs a number of places-- What might be most useful for us, though, is for you to go to steam, then click the help button and then system information. That will collect all of your info, as Steam recognizes it (useful in case the problem is related to Steam not recognizing your graphics card, sometimes that happens.) If you right-click inside that window, you will get options to select all and copy. Then paste that to a post, enclose in spoiler tags. There is probably a bunch of information we wont need--you can remove anything in the installed software section except the part that relates to you graphics card driver.

 

Thanks for posting your .ini values. Without knowing a little more about your computer, it is hard to make suggestions, so I will wait til you post the computer info. However, if shutting off Firefox is all it takes, then don't bother....(Hoping for the best!)

I can run Skyrim on Ultra with all DLC's and no mods, even though it detects my system as high. However, I prefer to run it on medium or high(usually medium) and with this many mods I have to say no to ENB's. Hope this helps, and I'll see if shutting down Mozilla helps. Ok, this may be part if your problem--

It looks like you might have a discrete NVidia Graphics Card, but Steam is not recognizing it and is using your integrated driver instead.

 

Do you have a separate video card? If you know you have an Nvidia card, then you may need to reinstall or update your drivers--EVGA has a very good guide on how to do this properly. (the detailed guide, especially, is very thorough).

 

Also, your DirectX is only version 8, I think you need to update to at least version 9 for Skyrim.

 

I would like to see your dxdiag report, that will be an accurate description of what you actually have on your computer.

In Windows 7: Click the start button, in the search bar, type: "dxdiag" (without the quotes).

This should bring up dxdiag.exe--click on that.

That brings up the Microsoft dxdiag tool. hen, either take a screenshot of the system and display tabs and post them, or click on save all information, then copy/past the text file that generates to a post. (in spoilers, it will be long.)

Well, here's the issue:

 

You have a laptop? Or did you and your friend use laptop parts in a tower?

Here is the part that may be the center of your issues:

So according to your dxdiag, you are using an integrated graphics driver, which shares most of its memory with your CPU.

If that is actually the case, then what you will need to do is focus on removing all competing memory users (firefox is a big one, there may be other things too-- any auto-update or auto scan can hijack all your memory and cause a crash. Some of those may be set to run without your awareness, so you might need to open up things like adobe flash, java, even Windows update and set them to check at a scheduled time rather than automatically, or even put them on manual, though this requires you to stay on top of checking for updates yourself.

 

You might also need to look at your mods list and make some cuts, chose lower-res versions, and/or use a texture optimizer (I use SMCO, and never even notice a quality drop, just smoother play.)

 

Also there are some graphics settings you could try-- it looks like you have 4x AA, which is pretty high for an integrated driver. I'd suggest turning off AO, FXAA, radial blur, and maybe 2xAA, if you can get it to work.

There are some other places you could make some changes, too, but....

 

The thing that bugs me is that Steam has Nvidia PhysX listed with our software. Which makes me think it is possible that you do have a discrete driver, but that it has either died or has become disconnected. Do you know if you have a separate driver? Maybe you could check with your friend. If you do have one, then getting it up and running, or replacing it if it is dead, would hugely help your ability to play Skyrim.

Okay. I can honestly say I'll have to save this post and show it to my friend because I understood little of it LOL. As for the CTD on save bug, I just had it again right now. However, here's what I noticed. When I validate the Steam files, every time I had the CTD on save issue I get "5 files failed to validate and be reacquired" message. Also, if I can play smoothly for a few hours without a single crash, and THEN I get a crash, I get the CTD on save glitch. However, if I crash 2-3 times in the beginning, than on that playthrough I WILL NOT get a CTD on save glitch. It's really wierd but it's a pattern I'm noticing.

Well, I think the game is officially corrupt with no way back. That means that Skyrim can R.I.P. It really sucks because Skyrim was my favorite game in TES series, and I've played since Daggerfall. Anyone have any good games like Skyrim that you recommend I buy?
