bben46
This does sound like a video card overheating problem. How about your power supply? a low or fluctuating voltage can cause all kinds of strange behavior. Most store bought boxes are underpowered and have cheap power supplies. And check your CPU temps also. Make sure all fans are running at max - not slowed down. Try a program called speedfan - it monitors several temperatures and several fan speeds. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php Open it up and look to see if you have a dust bunny farm in your case. Especially look at the air channels and fans on the video card & CPU heatsink. Check any air filters to see if they are clogged - they are usually located behind the case front panel, if they are even there. This is a big problem when the case is sitting on the floor. Mime is beside my desk, but raised up so the top of the case is just slightly lower than my desk top. Be sure to UNPLUG it before attempting to clean it. Just turning it off at the power switch leaves a keep alive voltage on your motherboard. There is usually a led on the MB to let you know, but not always. phoneyLogic
Open it up and look to see if you have a dust bunny farm in your case. :P Yep, this could cause a lot of amazing freezes and strange behavior.Especially if the cooler (??? the thing that keeps cpu temperature down) is congested by dust. Phoynix
MY system temps are FINE, its already been cleaned out inside, my PSU is a 750 thermaltake and shouldnt be the problem. What I didnt know thou was that my card early versions which I have somehow got 29% fan speed set as max which apparently isnt enough to cool it.Yet only game I consistantly and repeatedly having crashes in is fallout... weird thing aswell if im inside or in a town thats closed in like megaton it doesnt ever crash. I played crysis Warhead for 2 hours to see if that would crash and no problems at all. If its Videocard hardware problem its a really weird one to effect only a single game. Phoynix
ok I installed windows on a spare hd I had around and installed fallout , it ran for over 45 mins and only crashed on death/reload which happens without the patch. As it cant even go 5 mins on my normal install there must be some driver issue, what it is however I have no idea ive tried all the driver issue fixes online I can find, if anyone has any idea on how to track down the offending driver I would love to hear it.
