Vortex failed to install extension

When I start Vortex, I get a notification (upper right corner) that Vortex is attempting to install an extension, which then fails. Vortex opens a dialogue box listing errors, and while there is a Close button it does not close the dialogue box and I need to use task manager to close Vortex. EDIT: The Close button will close the dialogue if Vortex is left open for a bit, but all mods have been deactivated.

I am using Vortex 1.4.16 on x64 Windows 10 with 32GB RAM. I use Vortex for Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4, both with roughly 150 mods installed. Fallout 4 was the active game I was not making any changes mods when this occurred.

Having the same issue.

Error message:

It started after Vortex updated. Uninstalling and reinstalling Vortex didn't fix it. Vortex is fully unusable in this state, as it automatically attempts to update the plugin on starting Vortex (with no option to cancel/abort), and the error window can't be dismissed. Doesn't even say what plugin is the problem, so I'm completely lost at sea.

don't go into meltdown mode and uninstall/reinstall stuff. that resolves nothing and there's a high chance you will make a simple issue into a much bigger problem.

if you get an error - just do one thing -

STOP

then take a breath, then open a post in this forum and you'll get a solution.

Reinstalling your whole OS would be "meltdown mode". Reinstalling an app is slightly below "did you try turning it off and on again?" on the basic troubleshooting checklist. Dunno why you seem to think its a such a big scary deal.

At the time it first occurred I did look at the forum, and there was only one post about a similar issue, and it was days old without a reply, so I figured I'd try what I could in the meantime.
