Creation Kit not responding

Hi, I'm having issues with my creation kit at the moment and would appreciate any help, also I'm very new to modding and using the ck so if this seems dumb or is super simple to fix I apologise haha

basically I wanted to edit my game to just change some level lists the kit worked a few weeks ago and recently I tried to load it up again, it launches fine but soon after launching the kit starts to suspend itself saying its not responding and then I'm unable to close it unless I use task manager I've tried most fixes that I could find through searching but nothing has worked and I'm just confused as what to do or how to fix the kit.

Any and all help will be much appreciated thank you

It takes some time to load everythig when you start it and select the data files (Fallout4.esm, ...).

It literally has to load every single thing from the game, so depending on how good your PC is, it can take a few seconds to a few minutes.

Just don't do or click anything while it is loading.

thank you for replying, so I tried it a couple times by loading ck up and just leaving it after about 6mins it just closes with no error message, it doesn't let me get to select my data files either. I tried looking through my fallout 4 folder to see if any files were maybe in the wrong place and stopping it from opening but everything looks fine to me.

How much ram do you have on your rig ?

CK hangs a lot if your rig isnt at least up to some minimum specs...

Also avoid running any resource heavy apps in the background...

Also note :

Starting panic clicking while its hung will result in crash to desktop...

Just leave it and dont touch it ...Clicking other stuff or opening task manager etc. pulls focus away from the CK and it may cause issues on a rig that isnt up to specs or OS is eating resources...

I have 8gb of ram so not alot but I would like to think its enough as I've used ck before a few times just only recently it's started to have issues and yeh ive heard and seen alot with ck so I tend to run it with nothing else in the background.

As stated in previous reply I opened ck and just let it run I didn't touch anything else then after about 6mins of waiting(literally sat staring at my screen waiting, away from my mouse)it just closed down.

I have installed some new mods since I used ck last but I would like to think that wouldn't have an issue on the program starting.

8Gb is way too little... Take away what the OS needs depending on your startup apps... Its barely enough .

Imagine that when im doing locations it could be using anything from 5 to 12 Gb... ( i have 16 )

Cpu and Hard drive also matter obviously....

Setting up virtual memory a bit more than windows has it also may help...

that's a fair point and I don't want to seem rude I appreciate any sort of assistance but I've been able to run ck perfectly fine for weeks on end with 8gb my point is just why now after all that time of using ck has it decided to just not work

It may have worked for weeks (depending on what youre modding obviously..) but something has changed ..Either something you installed/updated or something in your specs perhaps (running out of harddrive space which would cause issues in the virtual memory since it uses harddrive space itself )

Also take a look at the creation kit ini... Maybe has been corrupted (some times happens and some values go to default)...

Creation kit tends to be a bit of a resource hog so having background processes running, other apps running could affect performance. I think for troubleshooting purposes, I'd remove CK and do a fresh reinstall of it. Don't forget to set up the associated ini files for modding (i.e., open multiple masters, etc) after the reinstall. After closing all other apps and unnecessary background stuff, I would open the CK and just load the fallout.esm with no additional plug-ins and confirm it works.

Also, it is possible that the mod that you were working on got corrupted and this was causing the CK loading issue. Happens sometimes. Periodically making backups isn't a bad idea.
