aw091486
I've been waiting to see if anyone would make some more "real" pistols, I've been using the Mark 23 mod, which I think is an amazing model. I've been hoping someone would make a Sig Sauer P226. Well, since no one has made one and I've done some modeling in Autodesk Inventor/Autocad, Solidworks when I was in engineering school, I thought I would give it a shot. I tried using blender, but I don't feel like learning how to use it since I'm proficient at Inventor and I have a copy, so this is what I've made so far from looking at my real pistol and taking some measurements. Will I be able to convert this into something I can use in fallout? I've also got Autodesk 3dmax. I have never tried texturing or extensive animations, but with some tutorials and help, I'm sure I will be able to figure it out. Any pointers will be very helpful, thanks! I rendered the model in Inventor, used some of their basic material colors otherwise the model has no textures right now. http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Slide-Right.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Slide-Left.jpg
SaintJames420
I'm hoping to see it ingame soon! lol I'll ask around. looks great btw.
Skree000
very promising! if you model in that much subtle detail, texturing should come easy to you. Its all about putting in all the expected details :)
aw091486
Here's some updates, just need to make the hammer and trigger, maybe fix up some of the frame details. http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Assembly-LeftSlideClosed.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Assembly-SlideClosed.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/FullAssembly-Left.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/FullAssembly-Right.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Parts-Left.jpghttp://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/aw091486/Parts-Right.jpg

aw091486
Okay, I just have the magazine left to model in Inventor, now I have no idea what I'm suppose to do. Is there a tutorial for 3D Max somewhere? I've just got a bunch of modeled parts but not a clue what to do with them.
vashts1985
kudos from a fellow inventor user. sorry to say, id rather be using UG. anyways inventor uses non rational b splines, curves. that's really bad for game models. modern engines can crunch quite a bit more than they used to, but they are not advanced enough to deal with curves. while this would make a great normal bake, an actual polygonal mesh would need to be made to be put into game. it is possible to import from inventor to max, but you will be left with a very high poly mesh that would prolly take twice the work to thin out as it would have just to make a low poly in max. do you have actual dimensions to go by or are you just winging it? aw091486
Nice to hear from you, I'm a big fan of the models you have made. I've been using your HK Mark 23 and that made me want to start using a P226. For the most part, I'm using real measurements since I have the actual pistol and I just took a ruler and sized most of it up. The slide is pretty close to real specs, the frame I sort of just winged it and made sure it fit correctly. I kept it at close as I could, but I figured it wasn't worth all the extra time to get it 100% correct. You pretty much lost me with most of your comments, I don't mean this offensively in anyway. This is my first attempt to make anything for a game, I've only been using Inventor for engineering school related work. Most of that has just been for actual modeling and ultimately prototyping, and not really for any type of animation or gaming. I'd be more than willing to send you what I've made in inventor, I briefly used nifskope and 3Dmax. Basically, I imported the inventor files into 3dmax, I downloaded the nifskope plugin and exported as a nif file. Then I tried replacing the frame with the frame, and etc. however, my pistol was much smaller and didn't correctly line up. I wasn't sure how to manipulate it to be the closer in dimensions or to change the animations points. Also, I've never tried texturing anything so I'm a little lost where I go next.
