Black Screen with music when loading save game

As in the title, when I load a save game I want to play, I see the loading animation, and then just black screen, with music and the sound effects of the location where the save would have loaded, i.e. water etc

 

Version: Skyrim Special Edition, Steam Update 11 November 2021 (Patch released alongside Anniversary Upgrade but NOT Anniversary Upgrade) - Version: 1.6.318.0.8

-No MODS had ever been installed on this install of Skyrim Special Edition prior to the following steps.

 

This is what I did prior to having the issue:

- Played vanilla game no issue.

- Made a save

- Reloaded save no issue

- Quit game to menu

- Downloaded, installed through the in game Mod Manager the following 3 mods:
- Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp - USSEP - Version v4.2.6a (2021-11-13)
- icepenguinworldmap.esp - A Quality World Map - Vivid With Stone Roads - Version 2 (texture only mod)
- barenziahquestmarkers.esp - Stones Of Barenziah Quest Markers - Version 2

- Ensured all three mods were enabled.

 

I then followed the following steps:

- Loaded prior vanilla save

- Verified that game was working fine, and all 3 mods were showing effects in game

- Played game for approximately 6 hours.

- Completed Stones Of Barenziah side quest, along with retrieving the crown for Vex.

- Completed approximately 6 radiant quests regarding finding books for Urag Gro-Shub in the College of Winterhold.

- Took a radiant quest from the College of Winterhold to go to Windhelm and retrieve an object from the Atheron Residence.

- Fast travelled to Windhelm, entered the city, entered the Atheron Residence.

- Saved the game.

- Attempted to pick pocket a sleeping resident and failed. :facepalm:

- Loaded the game just saved.

 

This is when I first noticed the black screen with the music playing and had to kill the app.

 

What I have tried:

 

- Uninstalling all mods and loading the same save - same error

- Uninstalling mods and adding one at a time back whilst attempting to load same save - same error

- Loading any and all saves (quick, auto and manual) made AFTER the mods were activated (save marked with [M]) - same error

- Loading the original vanilla save with and without all the mods, and with mods added individually - no error in all cases

- cleaning the save with FallRim Tools Resaver - same error

- REPEATED process by loading vanilla save, immediately saving with mods enabled & reloading - NO ERROR!!! :confused:

- Tried to set up Papyrus logging - no log generated during this error.

 

I have been told on discord that it cannot be the fault of any of these three mods, and my repeat of the process would suggest they are correct. However the fact is it is happening, so could maybe have been introduced at some point by some script trigger in game, but not discovered until the reload, I don't know. Anyway, this was the lead up to it, and I stand to lose about 6 hours worth of experience and quests if I cant get it back. So any help would be most useful, thank you very much. Is there such a thing as people taking a save file and diving in and seeing if there are any reasons for it, if so I'd be very interested in that! :facepalm:

There is an bug in the new version of Skyrim that loads scripts too fast. It results in scripts trying to load data before that data is available.

 

For some people it is caused by mods, for others it happens with vanilla.

 

Not sure how you can fix it. Might have to wait for Bethesda to update the game.
