Migey
Heya. I have Fallout 3 on Steam, the GotY version. I decided I wanted to try out some mods for it. I started by getting FOMM (not sure how it works but multiple sources told me I should just get it anyway). Afterwards, the first mod I was interested in was Fellout. I tried to install it from this site (Fallout 3 Nexus) however was stumped at the first hurdle. I was able to 'save' it, but usually after that happens a small arrow in the top right of my screen (where I start downloads) goes green, I click the thing I want to start downloading and click 'run', and things go from there. This time, instead of a window opening which would allow me to run the thing and install the mod, I got a window that looked like this. http://www.nextofwindows.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Windowscantopenthisfile2.png Telling me that windows cannot open this file. Apparently I need to choose what I want to use to open the file, but (as you can tell, I'm a computer noob) I havn't the faintest idea what to use. Any help would be appreciated. I use Windows Vista, if that helps.
M48A5
You will need the FREE program 7zip to open the files you download from Fallout 3 Nexus. You can obtain it here: http://www.7-zip.org/ You should also read this: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/ And this: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/652876-fallout-3-modding-and-you/ Edited August 14, 2013 by M48A5
TBSteve
Do those instructions, but as a bit of advice, I would get project reality! Gopher covers it in his weather/lightning video, and I definitely recommend it over fellout/enhanced weather. It is one mod instead of two, and I like it a little better! Also if you want to stick with Fellout, gopher also covers how to install that as well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHariRMIryI Edited August 15, 2013 by TBSteve
Migey
Okay I am still totally stuck. I installed that 7zip thing and tried to download Fellout 1.21R2 Core. But when I do I get a weird window that says "View Downloads - Windows Internet Explorer", and I can only open or save, not run to install? I tried saving it into the Data file in Fallout 3, but it doesn't show up when i run FOMM and isn't working. In the folder, it also has a weird icon of a page with an internet explorer logo on it. I have no idea what is going on or why. I really want to install this but this isn't making it easy. Edit: And when I try to use the 'open' option nothing happens... Edit: And when I try to use the 'open' option nothing happens...follow carefully here:you now have the downloaded file correct? ...(if so? where is the file?) open fomm, on the right side of fomm's program, there is a menu; on that menu there is a button (Package manager) click that, and "click add mod" :"browse" to where that file is located/ where it downloaded too. once located, fomm will show the file you downloaded, hopefully only that 7z file, click the file. now fomm has the file, click ok. now, in the fomm window, sense this is the first and only mod you have, you will see it, and there is a box next to it's name. click the name and go over to the right and select the "activate button", it will now install for you. from there on, you should do very well on your own.any more questions, there are tons of people that can help you out.kitty. Migey
It's not working. I get as far as stage 3 and finding the file (which still has the internet explorer icon on a white page next to it, and appears to be a "7Z File") and then upon clicking it, I get an error window that says "Something bad seems to have happened. As long as it wasn't too bad, a crash dump will have been saved inC:\Users\********\Documents\FOMM\crashdump.txtxPlease include the contents of that file if you want to make a bug report." And then I click "Okay" and FOMM shuts down. Wtf?

M48A5
As an alternative to Fellout, I would like to suggest DC Moods http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/19191/ It is awesome and easy to install.
