Man's Ingenuity

The world has died, the cities have exploded, the machines have sputtered and stopped, and all that good stuff. So why, oh why, does everyone have in there possession weapons that were made 200 years ago? Not everyone should have assault rifles, miniguns, or even pistols! Why does no one in the game use homemade weapons? I think that junk weapons should be the standard in the fallout world.

Basically, I want a plethora of craftable (and simple melee) weapons to replace the abundance of guns in the game. You should covet that assault rifle as an extremely rare find. Wastelanders should be using shishkabobs , railway rifles, junk launchers, and even deathclaw gauntlets. I'd also like to give a shout out to the makers of the pipe gun and junk metal blades. That's the kind of stuff we need.

I'd like more of these types of cool weapons, and I'd like them to be added to NPCs and enemies. That doesn't sound so hard, so if someone could add these weapons to leveled lists, that would be great. I understand why Bethesda didn't give them to any NPCs. If they did, we could bypass all the schematic and junk-collecting parts. It would be nice if you can use these crafted weapons, but they actually get more powerful when you have a schematic or two. (iirc, multiple schematics just changed starting condition, right? That was never really explained...)

Oh, and feel free to post some ideas and sketches as suggestions for new craftable weapons. These are the types of weapons that you can really let your creativity loose! Let's see your ideas for odd and quirky homemade guns! How 'bout a makeshift crossbow? A baseball bat with spike sticking through the end? A shiv made from a piece of glass with a cloth for a grip? Go wild, and get someone to make 'em!

I longed for some fine, Mad Max-style crossbows. A nice wooden frame with the black metal crossbow bits. If I were designing a post-apoc world, that would be the standard weapon of the wastes, and having a gun would make you a god among men.

RPC! Rocket propelled chainsaw!

Nuka rocket launcher:

Leaf blower

Fire hose nozzle

steam guage assembly

Pilot light

Ammo:

Nuka cola

Abraxo

Turpentine

Sensor module

Description:

steam guage assembely used as the barrel, fire hose nozzle on the end, leaf blower on the other end, pilot light sets off the rockets.

A semi automatic rocket launcher, uses nuka-grenade explosion, does lots of damage but you have to make the ammo.

Bering gun:

Vacuum cleaner

Lead pipe

Cooking Pot

Surgical tubing

Ammo:

Ball bearings (added to leveled lists)

Description:

Vacuum provides pressure to the pipe that fires the bearings, pot used as reservoir and tubing sucks the bearings up.

Fires crazy fast (faster than minigun) Very inaccurate, deadly in close range.

Thats it for now (I could think this stuff up all day  )

Great ideas, dudes and dudettes!

The Weed Whacker 3000!

components:

2 lawn mower blades

crutch

2 surgical tubing

tire iron

lawn mower gas tank

motorcycle handbreak

conductor

wonderglue

baseball

2 railroad spikes

Fed up with the pansy-assed Ripper? Want something more cruel, unusual, and not lame? Enter the Weed Whacker 3000! It features 2 lawn mower blades attacked to a central baseball using glue. The ball is attached to the end of a crutch using spikes, and on your end of the crutch is a handbreak for control, a gas tank for fuel, and tire iron and conductor that act together as a wind-up ignition. Surgical tubing acts as a means to spin the 4-bladed whacker.

We need someone that can actually design these kinds of models. Perhaps it would be easier to make meshes for junk weapons, since all the necessary items are already in the game. Could it just be a matter of manipulating and attaching the pieces together to make something new?

Hell if I know.

few ideas I came up with are as follows:

tooth brush shiv!

broken bear bottle!

scissors missing one blade wielded like a knife!

sharpened spoon on a stick spear!

block of wood with nails in it that would be throne at people like a grenade

police flashlight used as a club

sharpened metal with cloth handle

sharpened shovel

Edit: spelling

I never played oblivion, but I know that it was medieval fantasy type stuff. Were there crossbows, or even regular bows in that game, and if so, could their sounds/textures/meshes be adopted for fallout 3?

Bows and other such weapons really should be the weapon of choice among the wastelanders. Cheap, easy to make, and easy to make more ammo? After 200 years, who's still making 10mm rounds? But I bet the people of the wastes could still carve an arrow out of wood and stone...

It had bows but the resources (sounds/textures/meshes) are strictly off-limits for use in FO3, Crossbows were added via mods so in theory they have a chance to be brought over

Oh of course, we aren't allowed to use oblivion resources for the same reasons why modders can't package anchorage-related files, right?

I hope someone out there is working on those crossbows...
