Slow website and extremely low download speeds

Over the last couple of days (up to two weeks) I got extreme bad performance both when browsing the website and especially when downloading some files. When I open a mod page that has images hosted somewhere else those images fully load immediately while the rest of the page takes sometimes minutes to be fully loaded. Downloading a file both manually or via Vortex often makes me download them at less than 50KB/s, sometimes even completely pausing the download.

Country: Germany
Internet Service Provider (ISP): Telekom
Average Download Speed (non-Nexus downloads): 10MB/s
Download tests:

  • Amsterdam: CDN Download Failure (403 Error)
  • Prague: 9.6MB/s
  • LA: CDN Download Failure (403 Error)
  • Chicago: CDN Download Failure (403 Error)
  • Miami: CDN Download Failure (403 Error)
  • Premium CDN: 9.6MB/s

  • 3 weeks later...

The problem is, it didn't. CDN is the most reliable but even with that my up- and downloads slow down or even drop out frequently. When it happens the site itself seems to be affected as well. This problem started to arise a couple of weeks ago, at around the time Nexus Next alpha/beta started and and Skyrim AE was released. Might be coincedence, though.

That is weird, currently Nexus Mods Next is only used by a few hundred people and is on a separate "stack" to the main site. Out of interest if you use a VPN is it better? Could be something along the route your traffic normally takes has degraded?

Thanks for the VPN suggestion. I rarely use one but I'll try it the next time I run into that problem. Currently, both the site and downloads are fast and stable. Not sure what changed, though. Maybe it's actually related to routing or ISP problems as you suggested.
