Coming back to Skyrim and mods, since I'm starting fresh should I get the Anniversary Edition?

I have the Special Edition but this is a fresh install. I read that some (or many) people downgrade back to the SE because of mod issues. But I also saw SKSE has a version for AE, so with that in mind is it a safe bet to get the AE? And if not is it possible to get some of the extra content from AE without breaking mods?

That is a very personal decision that you need to make.

 

Personally, I got the update ( pre-AE ) automatically via Steam ( but still I have not bought the AE version ) and I updated some mods and my game is running fine.

 

Only a few mods have been updated and by the way, the most important ones ( SKSE, Unofficial Skyrim Patch, Address Library, SSE Engine fixes, PapyrusUtil, ConsoleUtil, Powerofthree, etc ).

 

Got a couple of mods in my load order that are not working : Frozen Electrocuted Combustion and Dead NPC Body Remover ..... the rest of my mods are working fine and I have not had any CTD since I updated those mods ( above ) and I have been playing since then for more than 10 hours.

 

Again, I am going to wait a bit longer to fully update my game to the new AE but the pre-AE is working fine. Keep in mind that the mentioned mods ( listed above ) have been updated for version 1.6 or something like that so I do not know if they will run fine with the full AE version.

If you do a fresh install you will get the the AE version 1.6.323 of the game (it is the only and current version on Steam).

Current SKSE version for latest game version is 2.1.3.

If there is some not yet updated mods dependent on SKSE you rellay want, you have to do a rollback to prior game version 1.5.97, there is a mod/tutorial for that here on Nexus.

I run atm +260 mods on AE with no problems, i do miss three or four mods i hope will be updated soon.

Starting fresh i dont see any meaning with rollback.
