NPC Follower Banter, How?

Maybe I'm just stupid but I've looked all over the creation kit tutorials and online stuff but I can't find any information on how to make my Followers chat or speak on occasion, I just want to add simple banter at times. I looked at all the info on AI's I could find but nothing on that subject. Lots of stuff on quest creation and NPC lines but not much if any on simple banter. Could someone point me in a direction on this subject? I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. Even to be able to replace the voice options for the general dialog would be nice to know how to do clearly. I've found it to be very tedious, and haven't had something I would consider a full success yet.

Idle chatter as well as generic event driven dialogue can be found under the Misc tab in the quest window. If you open up DialogueGeneric or DialogueFollower quests and navigate to the Misc tab you can see how it is used. It's set up the same way as other dialogue except you have a subtype dropdown box next to the topic which sets what triggers the dialogue. Idle is used for the simple banter you described such as that used for followers, Hello is when you activate someone etc.

That sucks! I'm thinking something along the lines of Mjoll the Lioness but not so extreme and Kharjo but with a bit more variety. The AI stuff I found points to allowing your follower to have dialog in sandbox but it seems it falls short at how to initiate the communication or where to connect any existing scripts/lines with your NPC, there are some tuts on creating your own dialog but I'm not ready for that. I found an area about triggers that start dialog with NPC's but it wasn't very clear and seemed to not connect AI scripting with what they were talking about.

Edit:

Thanks Djjohnjarvis, much appreciation , I'll look at that this afternoon!!

Found a couple of very good Tutorials on this subject on YouTube and I'm in the process of transcribing them to written format with images it's a bit daunting but when I'm done I'll post them on my blog and then point a link to it.

Here's one of the tuts I'm talking about casual and easy to understand.

Sorry this took so long to get back to, after a long break I've gotten back to modding. The YT link died before I could get very far in to transcribing it. There is an excellent mod that unlocks unused NPC dialogue for many voice types it can be found here http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52019/? but it requires SkyUI or SkyUI-away.

I've started work on a custom voiced follower and found that what Djjohnjarvis said is absolutely correct, the only way to make it work though that I know of is if you are creating a custom voice. I think there's a way to use existing dialogue using the voice type files but I haven't seen that in any tutorials. I've done it by recording my own files though, and it works.

Yes , but I'm thinking banter triggered by the player, isn't there a player condition as well and other conditions that include the player in the misc area? Your tutorial is excellent thought and I'll use it with the mod I'm working on, once again thanks!!
