strawbqwerty
I have on my steam account the updates to only update when I start through steam. I have never started the game from my steam account as I use MO2 . I have not played the game for awhile. Sorting through my mod list and at intervals starting the game to see if i have got it sorted. Then I get a SKSE message, game version is newer than the skse version. Steam has updated my game regardless of the update settings. Now that is not right forcing updates on people. Yes it can be sorted by rolling back the update, but I should not have go through that. anjenthedog
It's too late I suppose, and sorry for your troubles, but for future reference, to ensure that you are not inadvertently updatedset skyrim to only be updated if you choose (sadly, afaik you have to be online on steam to do it)set steam to not update unless you choose. And if a notice comes saying there's an update, dismiss it with prejudice.always open steam only in offline modeif you use vortex (You don't but many of us do) dismiss any attempt to "update your SKSE" I learned this the hard way in the 1.5.80 and 1.5.97 updates in early summer 2019 and autumn of 2020 respectively best wishes. showler
Important to remember that if Steam is not running when you start SKSE, it will launch Steam, launch the vanilla game launcher and update the game.

steamteck
just set your app manifest to read only problem solved with preventing updates Which I did and am so happy I did. My daughter however did not and it's a constant battle to keep her game running which , for today, at least we lost.
thumbincubation
Steam can, does, and has (to me) changed "don't update unless I launch" settings. You think you're safe, then one day you've got an update you didn't ask for. It sucks. I've been lucky with this, so far, but I have copied the entire game to a separate folder, just in case.
