Moksha8088
Despite following all the directions and starting Skyrim SE with only SKSE64, Steam updated for me. Of course, the game crashed. I updated SKSE64 as I guessed that was what was wrong. The game still crashed. Is there anything else I can do to get it working? Curse you Steam updater!!! ConShay
Sorry to hear that ... have you taken a look at this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57618?tab=posts
wfandrews
That depends on whether you want to play 1.5, original SSE, or 1.6 updated SSE. As you have discovered, contrary to some misinformation out there, Steam will update SSE whenever you log onto Steam whether you have "only update when I launch this game" or not. There is a mod "Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher" which will revert your exe back to 1.5.97, however afterwords you will have to play Steam offline or as soon as you log onto Steam online it will start to upgrade SSE. My advice would be to just accept the update as most of the mods that need to be are updated by now. You will have to uninstall all your mods and then use a load order that incorporates only mods that work with the updated version of SSE, which is the majority of even the most popular mods out there, and start a new game. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the Anniversary Edition seems to be a fact of life now so you might as well go with the flow.

So you are saying that once AE infects your game, your old game is bricked, and we need to start a new game with mods that work with it?
showler
They're saying that if you are using mods that require updates for the new 1.6 version, and that mod hasn't been updated yet, then obviously you can't continue using it. Either you stick with 1.5.97 or you update to 1.6.342 and make sure your mods are compatible.
Moksha8088
I am just going to abandon Skyrim for now. Sometime in the future my son might stop by and fix it, but for now Skyrim needs to be a memory. The most immediate stumbling block is the Net Framework mod. Moksha8088
My son had work off and was able to come over and vaccinate this AE variant. Had to remove the Net Framework mod.
