Trask
I struggled a bit to figure out where this thread should've been posted but I guess here's a good a place as any. So the character I'm playing now is a dark-skinned woman, as dark-skinned as I could get her. That's not something we see as video-game protagonists very often, seriously, female game-heroes as rare enough, races other than caucasians even more so (I even think aliens and robots are more common), I'm not sure i've ever seen a black female main characters in a game without character customisation, but anyway, I digress. Point is: even with all the colour sliders turned almost all the way to the darkest setting, my character still looks like a caucasian with a fetish for tanning oil. At first I dismissed this by reasoning that Ulysses and other characters also look a bit pale for black people (Ulysses is black right?) and figured that it's probably the lighting effects and general colour-palett or something. But then I noticed, if I look at my characters in third person when walking out through the perimeter fence in Big MT, when the screen goes blurry before you pass out, the colour of my character changes and becomes really dark, much more along the lines of you'd think a really dark-skinned person would look like, as befitting with all the colour sliders placed where they were. So now I'm wondering: Are my settings wierd? Have mods messed with my characters looks? Is anyone else having this problem?
vendetta616
I've never really paid attention to races in fallout, but it may just be the way Bethesda does races, I have a hard time distinguishing races in both fallouts. You could probably download a mod that more distinguishes races
Subject96
I would say its most likely just the game's vanilla lighting and palettes. I noticed the same thing with vanilla ones but after switching to the stuff from the visual concoction cookbook mod (http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/40179/?) I have noticed better skin tones. (Could take ALOT of fiddling!)
jahgaminginc
Yes, like vendetta I've had problems distinguishing races sometimes, although don't pay too much attention.Lots of people have noticed this and not just yourself. There's also a pale face bug / glitch, African Americans look Caucasian but there's an easy, quick fix for this. It's in this YouTube playlist along with lots of other tutorials for the GECK and a few bug fixes:http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE528CEE228C0DBB7 Edited August 27, 2013 by jahgaminginc
GnatGoSplat
I don't have any solutions, but I tried to make a black woman and the skin color slider wouldn't go any darker than a light brown/dark tan.
Trask
I actually did manage to make my character dark-skinned eventually (thank you Dr. Autodoc), it turns out that it's possible, you just have to do a lot of dicking around with the yellow and blue tinge sliders. Relios
Try Women of the Wasteland, gives exactly what you want; makes the player's character (if female) actually look like her race. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/51084/?
