OBLIVION

Anyone who buys Oblivion for Next instead of PC should be slapped. The Dynamic Compass could be quite useful if you could assign it to a specific location...say you're in Balmora, you want to head for Pelagiad, but you don't want to stick to the roads, so you tag Pelagiad with a 'Compass Mark", and wend your way there.

I don't see why everyone's complaining about the compass. Unless it's going to show you the location of things you shouldn't know about, it just makes life a bit easier. In real life, you'd have an instinctive sense of direction to guide you without having to look at the map every few seconds. But that's a lot harder to do in a game, so the compass provides it.

It'll be helpful, yes - no more checking the journal to see where you're going, checking the map to see where it is, and then checking the journal again to make sure you're looking at the right place. I'm just saying that I'd rather find my way than use the compass. If it's good enough, I could change my mind.....

I don't know about a release title, but I would certainly expect it to come out soon after Xenon's [a.k.a. XBox Next's, XBox 2's] launch. Hopefully, because if Microsoft really follows through with its plan to launch the Xenon platform next Fall/Winter, and Oblivion is a launch title, Bethsoft will be rushed to finish it. And we all know how rushed games turn out to be.....

I think they'll have plenty of time to finish up Oblivion for next Christmas...I mean, they've already been doing some serious developing for over 2 years, and now for the final year of work they have a full contingent of 60+ developers. But yes, rushed title=bad title, so I suppose I shouldn't push them too hard.

And also, I'm against the current intent of the compass. According to the Gamespy article, the compass is ment to push players towards the content they've created. They've referenced using it to point of caves and such in the middle of the forest, not just quest related incidences. I'd rather be surprised at finding a hidden dungeon, rather than having the content spoon-fed to me. It takes a great deal of roleplaying away from the game.
