pepperman35
Ok, I am interested in creating a border around my island (world space). You know, the type which prevents the player from entering forbidden domain. I understand that this is done via the regions drop down. First, user unfriendliness is an understatement. Second, I can find no means to edit the endpoints (verts) of the border once drawn. This seems to result in a lot of trail an error as there is no way to determine the edges of the land mass. I think to myself, surely I am overlooking something. So my question is this, how do I edit the border once drawn? In other words, how can I fine tune the border without having to redraw it completely?
Zorkaz
You can't and it sucks. The whole region tool does. That's why I always use tons of small points to edit the Region, then make it straight, but in case I need to edit it I have tons of small points as backup.Solution 2If you have important region data stored you can just uncheck your main region as "Border Region",then you are going to create a second one just for the Border
pepperman35
"The whole region tool does," strongly concur. I did discover that the coordinates of the points can be edited in xedit. This helps somewhat but you'll still need to know the boundaries of the land mass. Now if you are simply doing a square or rectangle it will be fairly simple, Just drop five points with the region tool and then edit the coordinates in edit. Knowing that each exterior cell is 4096 units by 4096 units also helps derive some coordinates for the square or rectangle.
Zorkaz
I really wish you could see the map based on the LOD textures data instead of just empty cells though
pepperman35
Yes, I totally agree. I go weary of trial and error.
Zorkaz
I often give certain cells that should build the edge of the worldspace dummy names, like TFLWesternBorderCell, etc... at least you can find the name being displayed in the Region Editor
pepperman35
Good copy Zorkaz, I will have to take note of that little trick.

Zorkaz
1. The region has to be around the island. I don't think you can only make a straight line2. The message will appear ca. a cell before the actual border is being touched
pepperman35
Yes, the border encircles the island. The message appears anywhere and every where on the island.
