No Category List

I tried to use the collection feature for Skyrim SSE and I must have messed something up because the collection would never finish installing (broken outside links)
so I canceled the installation and deleted the profile. After that the old profile which I had been using for over a year started to act strange- vortex told me that several of my mods
had no files but when I looked in the mods folders the files where there but vortex would not load them. So I performed a clean reinstall of vortex and now there are no categories
even after I select the list retrieve button. Even when I download a new mod there is still get no category. Anything else I can do?

More info I'm currently using Vortex version1.5.7 I'm trying to mod Skyrim SE.
I'm running Windows 10 on this computer

CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-8700K 3.70GHZ 12MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Coffee Lake)
HD_M2SSD: 2TB WD Blue Series M.2 SATA-III 6.0Gb/s SSD - Seq R/W: Up to 545/525 MB/s, Rnd R/W up to 100/80k (Single Drive)
HD_PCIE1X_SSD: 2TB
HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD [-20]
MEMORY: 32GB DDR4/3000MHz Dual Channel Memory [-80] (ADATA XPG Z1)
MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z370 - A PRO ATX w/ RGB, USB 3.1, 2 PCIe x16, 4 PCIe x1, 6 SATA3, 1 M.2 SATA/PCIe [intel Optane Ready]
VIDEO: GeForce® GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X (Pascal)[VR Ready] (Single Card)

I have uninstalled Vortex twice and done a clean install both in the custom and the hands off mode. In both cases Vortex will not show the categories list, the
column is there but it's empty. When I select retrieve categories nothing happens. My second clean install was done today 1.5.7 now when I download a
mod Vortex will install it but when I look at the info for the mod Vortex says it does not exist on Nexus. The current install seems to be installing the mods and the
game has not crashed yet but I don't understand what's going on.

Just wondering why your "troubleshooting" let you to reinstall vortex? As you've seen - it doesn't help at all. in fact, it could make a relatively simple issue so much harder to figure out.

if a mod is missing a category, click the mod twice, a panel opens up on the right where you can add whatever metadata you think you need.

Did you ever hear anything about this? I have a similar problem - the only Category I have is <Unassigned> so I made my own categories but it's more work to keep track of.

Nope

I would rather not do that for the for over the 300 mods in Vortext that resets all the categories to unassigned when I try a new collection, but thanks anyway.

The category list can be reset from the "Categories" option on the mods toolbar.

I'm afraid this won't update the information for any mods you currently have installed though.

As stated in my first comment I've pressed the retrieve categories button several times and nothing happens, except losing all the categories I put in.

If it's not retrieving categories (i.e. the list is blank) then there's something in your setup causing that to fail. Possible local antivirus or other security software.

I could understand something blocking it if something had changed but I did try it with no antivirus of firewall running. I've been using Vortex since it came out and have never had this problem, even when I download a new mod vortex will not asign a category. I'm puzzled. The game runs fine and now the mods are deploying properly it would just be easier to sort by categorry.

Hey Veloth,

After some digging today I need to eat my words there.

It seems that something related to categories changed on the back-end which means that apps like Vortex currently can't get a proper category list.

I've raised it as a priority bug so we should be able to fix it relatively soon.
