[LE] Enemies can't see you in the dark mod?

I've been heavily involved in Skyrim modding for a good year and a half now and I've never seen any such mod. I don't specifically know how the detection system works in the game, but I'm guessing it's some kind of line-of-sight, actions, noise, and perk related system - and lighting does not seem to be part of this system.

It's a shame as it'd be a great feature to have in Skyrim, but even if it could be implemented it would still probably have problems - in particular for ENB users that alter the lighting which at the end of the day is a relatively simple recolouring of the internal system.

Actually lightning plays a big role in detection, but only "ingame" lightning. Sorry I'm bad at english so I don't really know how to explain it, but ENB mods don't change the lightning, they just make your screen darker so it doesn't affect mobs unlike a lightning overhaul like Climates of Tamriel or Elfx

So how does this work then? There are plenty of mods that adjust interior lighting templates to reduce ambient light (shadow) and I've never heard of it affecting gameplay in any way. I'm not accusing you of being wrong at all, but I am curious...

I have made something like this albeit in compeletely different way. I wanted to create a stealthy reptilian were creature. The creature uses werewolf animations but as you propably know werewoves cant sneak. So I have made a camouflage ability (afterall a big reptile can have skin ability similar to chameleon).

It works like this: an ability is given to the player with invisibility effect. Every second a cloak spell is fired that checks nearby hostile actors, their distance and line of sight. Once hostile actor has line of sight and is close enough the invisibility ability with its effect is dropped. The range of dropping vary depending on amount of light on the player, rain, snow and sneak skill. The Magic effect has no visual effect so the only way to tell whether you are spotted or not is the reaction of NPCs.

Check out "Stealth Skills Rebalanced - Sneak - Lockpicking - Pickpocket" mod. According to the description it has this in it:

--Sound and light play a much greater role in detection

--Light also has a much greater effect on your ability to remain undetected. Stay in the shadows and avoid brightly lit areas.

The perk tree is changed to include these enhancements:

  • CamouflagedFULL VERSION ONLY - Wearing four pieces of dark clothing or armor will make you harder to detect at night or when inside. This perk will stack with Shadow's Embrace and works with any combination of dark robes, expert robes, guild armor, shrouded armor, nightingale armor, and various other vanilla items. When you take this perk, you will also be given a ring that will allow items from other mods to be included in this effect (just equip the ring and follow the directions).
  • Shadow's Embrace → decreases the relative effect that light has on detection. This seemed only fitting as Muffled Movement affects sound, while Shadow's Embrace and Camouflaged affect light...two different aspects of detection.

Lighting plays a large part in detecting stealthed players, outdoors and indoors. You just never notice it when outdoors because of how bright things are at night. I have RLO and RLW on my game and it makes it so dark at night that if there isn't a source of light I'll often just wait until morning before venturing from cities and the other day when I was playing a NPC literally had to bump into me before noticing I was crouched right next to them. The reason that particular mod does impact stealth unlike enbs is that instead of just making your screen darker, like Sabrio was saying, the makers of that particular mod go through the game with the creation kit and actually adjust all the light sources in the game.
