Graphics card question

So, I'm going to buy Fallout 3, but I have a NVidia GeForce 6600 series graphics card. I've visited a few sites, and they say I need a GeForce 6800 series card or better. What I'd like to know: do I really have to buy a new video card, or will Fallout 3 run on the 6600 series as well?

I hate flood control :wallbash:

Anyway, realisticly I can have my 2002 laptop run Fallout 3 if I truly want, granted it will look like poo and have crappy FPS.

Thing is you DON'T have to, but its recommended.

Best thing to do (if you have the money for it):

Buy Fallout 3

Install it

Test play it

--If it looks fine then no need to go any further and enjoy the game!

--If it doesnt continue below...

Make sure your entire system is up to date, if not that could be a reason for the crappy play

--If it looks fine then no need to go any further and enjoy the game!

--If it doesnt continue below...

Go buy a new graphics card that fits the recommended or at least min.

--Enjoy!

You'll need a more recent video card for almost all nowadays games, yet that card shall run Fallout 3 if you don't push the sliders hard. If you are going to upgrade you must verify the bus type you have; AGP or PCI-E (chances are you have AGP). If tis the case you should think about upgrade the whole system, something that may not be so expensive if you go for a mainstream up machine. But even with AGP you can get a real boost with the 6800 or 7600 nvidia card (be aware they are much more power hungry and you may need to upgrade at least the PSU too).

Don't know if it's a worldly phenomenon, but here, in my country, the AGP cards are now more expensive that their equivalent PCI-E... when you are lucky enough to find one.

Just as nosisab stated:

Post your PC specs; I've built plenty of computers (for the company I work for); I can help you out a little better with a bit more info.

Your:

CPU (single, dual, tirple, quad?)

Motherboard

Powersupply

Harddrives

cooling system

Graphics card (AGP, PCI, PCI-E?)

RAM (amount in gigabytes)

This is kind of a newb question, but I'm having video card issues too. I got the "failed to initialize renderer hardware T&L required but not supported by adapter" error, so I need a new video card.

I can't use PCI-E's. Where can I find a decent AGP or PCI video card for a reasonable price that will run this game?
