Deepblue686
I'm not sure if this is the correct thread but here goes... I've seen a multitude of patches on FO3Nexus and I'm not sure which patch to download since quite a few have warnings on them about really bad bugs added by the patches.Since I've downloaded some mods and FO3 mod manager doesn't list them and they don't show up in the data folder despite extracting them there (same with mesh, texture replacers e.c.t.)I'm thinking the mod problem has something to do with the fact I haven't updated yet. Any help please?

IceDragon987
I've seen a multitude of patches on FO3Nexus and I'm not sure which patch to download since quite a few have warnings on them about really bad bugs added by the patches.Since I've downloaded some mods and FO3 mod manager doesn't list them and they don't show up in the data folder despite extracting them there (same with mesh, texture replacers e.c.t.)I'm thinking the mod problem has something to do with the fact I haven't updated yet. Your in the right place, well I think you are cause I am here! (haha :P) Anyway, personally I don't like the FO3Nexus User Patches. I prefer to keep patches as a software owner type of thing (Can't think of the word to describe it). I don't trust users to fix the problems without creating extra ones. Anyway. Fallout 3 Mod Mannager, also known as FOMM, has a multitude of functions. The MOST important thing is to make SURE you install it into the Fallout 3 FOLDER (NOT the DATA). Always be mindful of where you extract mods to, it's much more easier to drag and drop the (Meshes, Textures, Menues etc.) files directly into the DATA folder than using a program to do it for you. The reason being is you KNOW it went into the correct folder. I don't know how many times I have had data folders inside the original DATA folder (C:\Fallout 3\Data\Data\Data, yes I'm serious that happened to me, :wallbash: ). As well make sure all .esm go before .esp (this excludes the User Created Patches as I do not know thier load order). REMEMBER! Make sure FOMM is in the Fallout 3 Folder and not any other! If you are going to use User Created Patches, then don't patch to 1.4, unless the mod stats its 1.4 safe, I've heard many of horror story glitches. Deepblue686
FO3MM is not in the data folder and even though I stick the mods in the data folder, they don't show up. :wallbash:
IceDragon987
You said it wasn't in the Data, is it in the regular Fallout 3 folder then? (...\Fallout3) ? make sure the .esp and .esms are in the data file as well, and load .esm before .esp. take a screen shot of your FOMM opened up and post on here if you could please FO3MM is not in the data folder and even though I stick the mods in the data folder, they don't show up. :wallbash:
phoneyLogic
As IceDragon said, I would first try the official Patch. For the majority of gamer the patch should work fine. Mods are best installed by your own. Avoid extracting something directly into your Data-folder.(don't know why people do so) 1. There could be a ReadMe -> It`s recommended to read it before you install 2. Only add one Mod by one. -> Test it. If you install a plenty of Mods, you`ll probably have to spent a plenty of time to figure out, why your game is crashing all over. 3. Make a savegame that is "clean". -> You could need it later - just to be sure. 4. If you have installed a mod by your self, you`ll know how to remove it 5. If something went terrible wrong, you will be lucky if you have Backed up your data - folder 6. Game on, enjoy the forums :)
Deepblue686
Ah I think I got it now. Extracting to the correct folder is ok for most games but not for FO3 it seems.dragging the files into the correct folder does the job. Mods show up in FOMM It's just that I'm looking in the official sections of the downloads in FO3Nexus. A lot of the ratings for the official patches are pretty low. That's why I'm unsure of what patch to install
Skotte
the official patches 1.1 & later are pretty much about the DLC but 1.1 & later also mess up the VATS & vats related perks. I personally use the 1.00.35 with the fake patch & the unofficial patch
