Reinstalling is Creating Duplicate

Recommended Posts

Reinstalling a mod is making a duplicate rather than replacing the old install with a fresh new install. Now, everytime a mod is installed Vortex results with two versions of that mod; the original install and the new fresh install. Also, if I try to delete the duplicate it'll delete the archive too making it so I no longer have the archive of the mod. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

if you don't want to delete the archive, don't click the option that clearly states - delete the archive?

No no no. You misunderstand.

I'll try to explain better.

With Vortex you have two options to uninstall a mod. You can either remove it or delete it. Removing the mod will uninstall the mod and it will show up in the 'uninstalled' section. Deleting the mod will remove the mod, archive, and it wont show up in the 'uninstalled' section anymore.

The problem is, as of late, when I reinstall a mod it's not removing the already existing install like it usually does. As a result I end up with two copies of the mod. If I remove one of them, then I still have two copies except one is installed and the other is in the 'uninstalled' section. The only way to get rid of the duplicate is to delete it entirely which of course deletes the archive and I no longer have the mod.

Hope this is more clear.

  • 2 years later...

Years later and I'm having the same problem. I only want one copy of the mod. It's additionally confusing because looking at version numbers, it seems like the old mod is active an the new one isn't. I en up just uninstalling both and then redownloading the mod. It's an unneccessary hassle.
