How do I create a drop down menu for different versions of a user-generated mod?

When I create a custom mod and add it to vortex, but have a new updated version....it never fuses the two line items where I can use a dropdown menu in the "version" column to select the version I want to use.

 

Am I missing a step or is this only possible for mods with certain metadata or something?

i guess what I'm asking is...what data is that dropdown menu dependent on?

It's actually pretty difficult to create a drop-down association for non-Nexus Mods files. I believe the "Mod ID" field is used, but this is a Nexus Mods field.
