Question about type 3, 4 and 6 body compatibility

Hello,

 

I have some questions about the compatibility between what appears to me to be the three most common female body replacers for New Vegas. Can type 3 armors and clothing be worn on the type 4 body without gaps and/or clipping? Same question for type 6m armors and clothing on type 4 and/or type 3 bodies. Is there a noticeable difference between the type 4 and type 3 body beyond the neck seam? I've seen several mod recommendations for the type 4 body that link to type 6m armor/clothing, is that by design? I also have seen type 3 referred to as "Berry" "Aliceberry" and "Cali" are these apparent sub-types all compatible with any type 3 armors/clothes? Would they then work with the type 4 body as well?

 

I do apologize for the rambling, unfocused nature of my questions. Basically, I am just trying to understand the nuance between the bodies, what in general works with what else. I understand with many armor mods that cover the whole body that it will be difficult to discern any difference at all. My concern is with the more revealing clothes and armors; I want to be sure gaps and clipping is negligible or ideally, nonexistent.

 

Anyway, if someone out there is able to give me a quick and dirty rundown on the various body types and sub types I'd be extremely grateful. Not that my gratitude is worth much...

 

I do apologize again if these questions have already been asked and addressed elsewhere, my google fu is lacking to say the least.

The body types refer to the overall shape of the nude body.

 

The various body types referred to in the armor mods will give you an idea of their shape and have no relationship to the body shape that is displayed when the body is nude.

 

I use the "Half" body from the mod Bouncing Natural Breasts for my body replacer along with a mixture of armor body types that include something from all the body types without a problem. The nude body type has nothing to do with the shape of the armor. The only reason I can think of that a mod author would recommend a certain body type would be the author is using that body type and does not know that there is no relationship between the nude body and the shape of the armor.

 

The type 3 body is just about the universal standard for texture mapping. That is why you will see that mod authors will say to use a Type3 compatible body. This insures that the body textures will display correctly. All the "Type" bodies can be used with any Type3 texture replacer. I use the Beware of Girl Type 3 HiRez HiDetailed Replacer with armor from Type3, 3F, 3M, T4, T6, T6M, T6M BNB with bigger breasts, T6M Fitness, T6F, T6MFL and T6P.

 

As far as clipping, if the armor is constructed correctly and the mod author takes the time to check for clipping before the mod is published, clipping is not a problem when using armor of a body type that is different from the nude body type.

Thank you for the reply, I think I understand better now. Just to be clear, I am using the mod "Spice of Life - Variety Armor and Clothing Robert Breeze Type3" and it specifically says I need to use a type3 body or it will not work. I am currently using the type4 body. I've not noticed any glaring issues. Is that due to the clothes not being affected by the underlying body?

Yes. As I stated, mod authors will say that you need a specific body type for the mod to work either they don't know how the body works or don't care. The only thing you need from Type 3 is the textures. If the mod author says to use a Type 3 body it is because that is the body the author used and that is the body type that was used during the UV mapping.

 

If you were to open the .nif file in NifSkope, you would see that 99% of the time, the armor .nif file includes the underlying body. Very few armor/clothing mods will only have the clothing/armor.
