[bug] Vortex is moving Skyrim VR mods to Skyrim SE

some kind of metadata error, I think

since Nexus considers Skyrim SE and Skryim VR to be the same game, if Vortex thinks the mod isn't specifically for Skyrim VR, vortex will be like "well this is on the SE page, so I'll fix that for you without asking"

any way to stop this? or maybe a future update can fix it?

Not a bug. Most Mods used in VR are also valid for SE - and vice versa.

Click on Downloads in left margin.

Click on Show all downloads.

Filter on SE. (or VR)

Look for your mod.

Double click it. You will see that mod is for both SE and VR.

You can add or remove entries individually.

This allows Vortex to only save one archive which may be used by multiple games. I actually like it...

I Agree with the OP!!! This should not be happening. At a minimum, the user should be asked if they want this to be done. I am trying to keep everything that I am installing for SkyrimVR separate, and I know when a mod is for VR only, even when Vortex doesn't.

I have over 1000 mods downloaded for Skyrim SE. Now, when I have my Skryim VR install the way I want it, I won't be able to simply delete the Skyrim SE stuff. I will need to walk through every single download and see if it is one that I used for Skyrim VR.

Also, it isn't simply moving the files, it is renaming them to all uppercase. This makes the filenames much harder to scan through, which will make it even more difficult to clean things up. This uppercasing of the filenames is definitely a bug.

Skyrim VR simply isn't a separate game on the website. So there's no way to differentiate between mods for the different versions. Everything for SSE + Skyrim VR is downloaded to that same folder so it will appear in both games automatically.

*** I apologize if my frustrations are coming out poorly here. I am a Vortex fan. I have just been spending a lot of time trying to clean things up.

They are differentiated in Vortex. This has nothing to do with the web site at all. This is just Vortex initiating an unwanted action.

The files are initially downloaded where they belong based on the settings. When I am in an SE profile, the files are download to SkyrimSE. When in a VR profile, the files are downloaded to SkyrimVR.

It makes no sense to move files from those appropriately named folders, to "skyrimspecialedition". Why wouldn't they just go to the "SkyrimSE" folder? I think there is a lot of value in being able to ensure there is only one copy, but that should be up to the user to decide. The user could be prompted if there happens to be the same file in the two folders.

The way things are working now it causes the following problems:

1) Files are renamed to uppercase characters. Why on earth would that be done?

2) Vortex thinks the files were downloaded as of the time they were moved. For example, I downloaded several mods a few days ago, and then today Vortex moved a bunch of stuff. So, now the mods that I downloaded the most recently are not sorted to the top.

3) Multiple folders need to be searched to find a zip file when something needs to be fixed.

4) The name of the folder that the downloads are moved to makes it look like they are SE specific. I recently moved folders around due to a new hard drive and I thought something had gotten corrupted because I knew where the mods were downloaded to. I initially left the "skyrimspecialedition" folder out, thinking that it was old junk left over from a folder rename at some point.

5) I now have duplicates of files that were supposedly moved.
