Let's put this in perspective: would you through 1 million dollars out a window cause you wanted something different? of course not. same with Oblivion.

The non-linearity has been there in every one of the full blown RPG's in the Elder Scrolls series (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind plus the Morrowind extensions) so it's pretty much impossiible for them to do ES IV without it.

Battlespire and Redguard are the other Elderscrolls ganes that aren't full blown RPGs, (I have no idea where the cell phone games fall.) Battlespire, the only one I have played, really only has the central main quest to be completed . It was designed much closer to being a fantasy equivalent of an FPS rahter than as an RPG. I suspect Redguard is simlarly focused but haven't played it. Oblivion is clearly billed as a full blown RPG as ES IV, so it will be guaranteed to have th e non-linearity.

GamesFirst!:    Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was a breakthrough for single-player role playing games in part because of its open-endedness.  Other sources have reported that you are continuing this trend, but what can we expect for advances in this open-ended game structure?

Gavin Carter:    The Elder Scrolls games were pioneers in open-ended gameplay going all the way back to Arena. You can certainly expect us to continue the trend with Oblivion. Our advances come in the form of refining and improving the gameplay elements most basic to RPGs - combat, exploration, dialogue - and adding in new features like Havok physics and our new AI technology. Also, taking steps such as putting markers on your compass and maps, and refining the journal to make sure the player is never at a total loss for things to do. The goal is to make Oblivion one of the most entertaining RPGs ever and create what we like to call the “RPG for the next generation.”

Happy now?

my friends and I all agree that the lack of dwarf races has marred tes. a quest to find the last remaining dwarf clan who went into hiding after the kagranec incident or something olong those lines would be appreciated by us, especially if they became a playable race after the end of the game!

Boy, are you stupid. If you'd payed attention in MW, you'd know that something wiped out all of the dwarves, except for Bogrum Whatshisname. Oh yeah, you choose your race in the BEGINING of the game; if you wanted to change it, you'd have to start the game all over again, unless you download something like the Service Amulet.esp (good job to who made it, i don't remember), but that wasn't included with the game, and they don't have something like that I know of. Definatly something Ayleids would have done, though.

Just one question, Luthiel. Do you remember what I said in the Morrowind: Characters post about your character that you 'lied' about? Please stop lying. It is rediculus. Not only did you lie about your character, but you also lied about what someone said in a magazine. And you were basically calling TES IIII: Oblivion game developers liars because of what you said you read in a magazine that ended up being a lie. I'm going to stop now because I dont feel like getting in trouble with Dark or the other moderators.

About the races, as said before, I would find it an outrage if you could only be one race (Imperial) and the magic was 'more controlled'. I didnt even think that imperials were big magic users anyways. I thought it was more Brentons (sp?). If you could play the entire game with magic, that would be great because I like both Combat and Magic.

The roman numeral for 4 isn't IIII, it's IV. Do you know that?
