What version of Skyrim Special Edition i need?

Hello, I am new to this community and I would like to know if you could help me with the question I have. What version of Skyrim Special Edition do I need for the mods? What is the recommended to download the most popular, and a good amount? I currently have version 1.6.318.08 and I have not updated to any other.

The version mainly depends on what mods you are going to run. I've downgraded mine to the 1.5.97 since some mods were made for that version and are not updated yet. Other mods have since received updates and will work with your version.

 

To clarify how to check about mods working for your version. The 1.6.318 version you have is called the AE (Anniversary Edition) version, EVEN THOUGH your Skyrim copy says it's the the SE (Special Edition). Very confusing.

 

Most, if not all, of the mods that are version dependant will say on their page that they work for 'AE' or 'SE' version. Some even have two separate download files specifying which version they are for. So if you are downloading mods for you're current version you go with the 'AE' file.

 

So, to answer your question:

Safe to stay in your current version and if you come across a mod that isn't updated yet, wait until it is, find an alternative, or forget about.

Can't go wrong with downgrading just have to be aware your downloading the right mod file.

You should either have 1.5.97 (last before the compiler update) or 1.6.353 (most recent). Using a version in the middle will have no benefit and might cause issues.
