Armour Upgrading

Do you sometimes find an armor or weapon ingame and instantly think "Sweet!! thats the coolest looking item I ever found!", before realizing that the armor rating is like 2, and you already have daedric/ebony/mithral armour which is way better?!

I thought of this because I love my faction armor from Blackwood Company mod, but theres no way I am going to wear it when I already have ebony or daedric. Same with Elven weapons...they look great, but past level 4 your never going to use them!

And seeing as everyone has different favorite items, you can't just increase the power of every item. SO what about a mod that lets you pay some weaponsmith to make your weapon/armour better. I am sure a script could clone your item of choice and then change a value to whatever you had paid for, then remove the old item.

If you made upgrading to daedric quality cost as much as daedric, ebony as much as ebony etc then it shouldn't unbalance play :D Anybody have any other thoughts??

Every time I have tried to modify the stats of armor/weapons with OBSE, the changes didn't save. This may have been fixed, or someone knows a trick, but It's not an easy task as I know it.

I like the idea, but as an OOO player, even upgrading to vanillia daedric quality won't compare to the daedric weaponry I get in OOO. A lot of things from mods are too weak for OOO play and often I have things way better. If it is done, perhaps a more general approach than using vanillia classifications (such as "daedric" quality) could be made.

Perhaps to help maintain balance, you could take the amber approach that SI uses, and require people who want to upgrade equipment not only bring money, but also gems or something like that to complete or refine the weapon better.

Yeah, it does seem to be hard...and no modder seems to have found a workaround as yet. Several crafting mods have attempted it but they all have serious limitations :(

@darkjaffar - I thought the changes in OOO were to DamageMult gamesetting rather than the actual weapon's damage itself? of course its also likely I know nothing... :O anyway thanks!

The only true buffs for AR and weapon damage that I have found to save with the game are the 'defendbonus' and 'attackbonus' stats, which effect all armor and weapons the player equips. I may be able to come up with a system that accurately "drains" the bonuses as the equipped armor/weapons degrade, and only restores when you equip new/repaired equipment. That way the bonus of 20 AR you recently earned wouldn't stay at 20 when your armor hits zero health (i.e. prevent a cheat).

But isn't armor rating somewhat irrelevant at higher levels when you can use enchantments on clothing (with zero AR) that do a better job than Daedric armor? (reflect damage, reflect spell)
