RoNin1971
I just couldn't help it... :P How's this for lower LOD? Straight piece in 26 triangles: If you copy paste these into a 4K image and map that onto a 256x256 square tile (the size of a floor piece, for example) it should more or less be on HO scale, if my calculations where correct :geek: I did it with even only 10 triangles and you will have trouble noticing the difference (these things are pretty tiny in-game), except from a more sideways angle. You can use the same texture to do bends. Beth did. :P I might be crazy enough to do all the nifs and more textures. (& maybe even a tunnel & a bridge  ) ...and while working on it, I had this "idea" (don't worry nothing serious)...Would it be possible to turn them into some sort of mini conveyor belts which will, when powered, push the train around the tracks? It would be pretty immersive as you can make it stop & go by pushing a button, to turn on the 'power'. (just like the real thing)

pepperman35
Would it be possible to turn them into some sort of mini conveyor belts which will, when powered, push the train around the tracks?Theoretically, I would think it is possible as that is how the manufacturing machines in the DLC are set up. That would mean you'd have to animate each track segment and figure out how to keep the train connected as the cars transitions for one "conveyor" to the next. I would also think something like this would be possible: 3DS Max 2013 Tutorial | Animation on a Path | InfiniteSkills. I think keeping the train corrected also becomes an issue. Maybe the train could be setup with the bones structure but my knowledge is very limited there. Edited August 23, 2022 by pepperman35
RoNin1971
Definitely miscalculated. It fits perfectly, so my calculations where fine, but I used the wrong scale. 1:72 (the one I remember from my toy soldiers & model kits.) But HO is 1:87. The (small) scale is a bit of a pain. CK wasn't build to handle such small 'set pieces' & its difficult to get close enough to appreciate all the details. & that's while on a table. My first version was "simply" created on top of a scaled down straight rail piece from the game, but with a scale of 0.01388889 the 'length' of the piece doesn't follow the 2,4, 8, 16 etc. grid.Connecting those pieces is between difficult & impossible. Example of the pieces I created so far (but need to redo) - note: The locomotive is a scaled version, for reference, not a low poly asset (the bridge is!) In the above picture I'm as close as I can get (except for kneeling) Making it look like a warzone is pretty easy though... Note the lack of reflection/shine on the rails, which you will see (only just) when moving your head, but it gets blurred out as soon as you stop moving. ...so I redid the texture & created a new piece (on the right HO scale), where both ends are on grid. but I wonder what will happen with the curves (3x30 degrees for a 90 degrees turn) & stuff. Connection points might be a "solution" (at leat in-game, if they where buidable) A bigger scale might be unavoidable. It is however a lot of fun to work on & look at so I'll keep on it. Zorkaz
Yeah late to chime in but snap points at this level are not possible. The game is too imprecise for it.Years ago I made this and this was the only possible size for a trainsethttps://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/38643
RoNin1971
Wow, that's big enough to put some seats on top and have an amusement ride ... I was thinking more of a "Madurodam" size [edit: 1:25]), max. (A miniature world here in my country Hmmm....There must be a way for smaller scales, even if I have to create the entire track as one piece.
