Need some help with G.E.C.K.

open geck

select save as (give the name you want for your ESP)

Select the item (in geck)

open it and change the name.

you'll be asked if it is a new item, say yes

select where in the game you want it (in cell view).

render the preview (right click)

drag the item to the render window.

position where you want

I appreciate the help everyone. I guess I should be more a bit more clear as to what I'm trying to accomplish. Without deleting/altering the original "NCR Beret" from the game I would like to make a entirely new item with the "NCR Beret" meshes. Is this possible? The above mentioned just alters the "NCR Beret" and erases it from the game. Sorry didn't get back to respond until at this time.

Hmmmm I'll retrace my steps then. I stated the above because after following the instructions you gave and the "NCR Beret" I had in my safehouse beforehand changed into the new item I made and that's why I thought it didn't work.

1.short version

2.open geck

4.Select the item (in geck)

5.open it and change the name.

6.you'll be asked if it is a new item, say yes

7.select where in the game you want it (in cell view).

8.render the preview (right click)

9.drag the item to the render window.

10.position where you want

After #5 I'm not prompted if it is a "new item." It just changes the "Beret" entry completely to whatever I rename it to. Am I not supposed to do anything to the "ID" of the item at all? I will go thru the tutorial (when I have time hopefully soon) but in the meantime I thought I just ask.

I messed with the "ID" as well as the "Name" and then it did make a separate/new entry (and leaving the "Beret" entry alone) but now this.....

Obviously I chose to drop it in Doc Mitchell's house on the floor and when I equip it, the above happens LOL?!

You need to fix it in FNVEdit. Very common issue with hats.

It is the same issue as arises importing Fallout 3 hats.

 

Open Armor

go to MODD

right click and select edit.

make it look like this:
