There is one way to avoid it. Wash your hands frequently, and keep your distance from sick people.

But there's one problem with that. The symptoms are not so overtly apparent as to allow oneself to identify an infected person by a glance. The disease could be passed on by someone who does not even yet know that they are ill, so have not taken recommended precautions.

Yes, I understand that, but the chances would be low if you did. It's technically true. My teacher told me this.

And s'more info for yas. Those who are not the age range between 25 and 40 will live. I'm 18, so my immune system is strong at this point. It would kill kids for sure. Hell if I ever got it, I'd tell my friends and family to get the f*** away from me as far as possible.

I work in a clinic in Texas and we have had about 10 people come through with a suspected case of swine flu but none of them tested positive.

We have a checklist of precautions to take as workers in the field but it is highly contagious.

This is the procedure our clinic is following:

The Texas Department of State Health Services recommends performing rapid flu testing on all patients with influenza-like illness (fever >100 degrees and cough and/or sore throat).

They also recommend rapid testing on all patients with acute respiratory illness: recent onset of at least two of the following symptoms: rhinorrhea or nasal congestion, sore throat, cough (with or without fever or chills) and meet one of the following criteria: a recent travel to Mexico (within the past 7 days) or contact with a person who has been diagnosed with Flu A.

Since rapid flu testing is not sufficiently sensitive to rule out influenza, we will also send a specimen to the health department for a viral culture.

On suspected flu or other acute respiratory illness (as defined in the second paragraph), order the Rapid Flu A/B test in the lab software. Submit two nasopharyngeal swabs (one for rapid test and one for culture). You may also submit a nasal aspirate.

We will perform the rapid test here and send the flu culture out regardless of the results of the rapid test.

When patients arrive with these symptoms, we immediately have the patient put on an N95 mask to help reduce the possibility of spreading the illness.

This is getting to close to home, there was 1 case in Toronto Ontario and i just live 3hours away.

I guess the best thing to do is go on with your lives, like you always have, but if it hits level 6 then quarantine hits.

scary stuff.
