All mods don't work

Hey guys,

I got a little problem. Yesterday I tried to install some mods e.g. Kvatch Rebuilt. But every mod I install doesn't work.

I've put the files into my data folder and activated the mods in the Oblivion launcher.

What I have done wrong? Can anybody help me please?

I just forgot to say it: I got no textures folder etc. I just got "BethesdaSoftworks Archives". Is it important that I got these folders? If so, how can I get them?

There's nothing wrong with not seeing \Textures or something under \data, because almost everything(except music or something else...) is packed into .bsa files. Oh, and what is your game version(Check the game title. Version number is there)? And do you have Shivering Isles?

It's normal that I can't see these folders? For almost every mod I had to put some files in the textures folder, which I don't have.

And my game version is 1.0.228. I haven't Shivering Isles or any other add-on.

You should patch your game to latest version(1.2.0416), unless you want to use very old mod 'only'. And having Shivering Isles is not 'must', but you'll need it when you get SI-requiring mods.

**Warning: Since SI modifies Oblivion.exe and Oblivion.esm while installing, it is not recommended to install it over already patched game(I'm not sure, but the expansion pack may spat error message upon installation). If you get SI later, uninstall game->reinstall game->install SI->apply SI patch would be safe way.

Just create the folders yourself. The filepath should be Oblivion/Data/Textures. Same for meshes, sounds, etc.

Easier way is 'Just extract archive into \data'. Unless it's packed with 'wrong' tree structure(most common thing is seeing \data at top directory, in this case you should extract it under your game directory). And if it is in .omod or having some omod ready script, it is recommended to install it with Oblivion Mod Manager(OBMM), though omod ready archive can be installed manually unless it's somewhat complex.(And for BAIN package, use Wrye Bash to install it)

Just to be helpful and explain why it's normal to not see these folders. By default almost all of the game resource files are packaged in BSA archives. So there are no "loose" files. This is why the first time you look in the data folder, before installing any mods, you probably won't see a meshes or textures folder. Any mods that have meshes and textures included will contain these folders and you simply drop the meshes/textures folders from the mods into your data folder. This can be done manually or via a mod manager. If you wish to add meshes and textures folders prior to installing mods, it's as simple as creating empty folders with those titles and dropping them into your Oblivion/Data folder.

Hope this helps to clear things up.
