falleNLOL
Hey guys, i recently found this site and with all the mods on here, i decided to reinstall oblivion so i could try them out. Anyway, i installed the game and downloaded the latest patch, however it doesnt want to install properly. I get the 'old file not found' error. From what i read in the stickys this should only occur if ive had shivering isles beta patch installed, or if i downloaded the wrong patch. Im using vanilla oblivion, so i downloaded the english version, and i have never had shivering isles installed so it cant be that. So far i have tried:- Reinstalling the game to the default location, then apply the patch - same error- Downloaded the patch from a few different sites - same error And i dont really know what i can do other than that :/
dezdimona
when you uninstall you don't actually remove all the old files. You have to manually delete the rest..all of them, then you can do a reinstall
bben46
If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game. If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch. To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch. You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included. If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions. If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk. Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk. falleNLOL
ok, well i feel like an idiot :D When looking for the patch, I assumed (as with alot of games) that the US patch was for Australia aswell, which is where i live. Turns out i just needed the UK patch. On the official site it actually says its UK/europe/australia, but the others just said UK or US. Thanks for the help, time to get me some mods :D
bben46
And some people even think we speak the same language. Note that the SI patch is the same for both US and UK, as well as Australian English.Maybe sometimes we do speak the same language, but some of us still spell it funny. TravisJWoodbeck
I'm having the same problem!!! Though I do have mods installed, IT like you will not let me install the 1.2.416 update and always stops at 13% saying it cannot find the original file. This may/probably be the reason why some of my mods are not working in game but installing perfectly fine in NMM? Is there a way I could get this patch without having to totally wipe my mods, saves & game files and re-installing? I could totally use some help!!!! I record Lets Plays on youtube so I don't want to lose my character or the mods attached to her save
Lanceor
Your saves are in the My Documents/My Games/Oblivion/Saves folder. Even if you completely uninstall Oblivion, the saves should remain. You can back them up if in doubt. From the Nexus Wiki: GOTY edition If you have the Game of the Year version you don't need a patch as long as you have installed Shivering Isles. For some reason, Beth put the Oblivion Patch in the Shivering isles install instead of the Oblivion install. Choosing the right patch You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included. If you have Shivering Isles then do not use the Oblivion patch, only use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the Oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions. If you do not have Shivering Isles use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk. Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have free patches for every language version. There are 2 English versions, UK & US, so be sure to get the one that matches your disk.
TheMastersSon
This update error can be caused if you did the file rename trick to force 3.0 shaders in Oblivion. The update tries to find the original shader file and can't. If this is your problem, the workaround is to rename the files back to their originals, run the update and then redo the file renaming.
