F4SE.exe & Fallout4.exe ctd after launch on win11

Hi everyone,

I bought a laptop and installed Fallout 4 with steam.
I already have a desktop PC with modded F4 and I copied all the necessary folders even those of the mod manager to the laptop.
appdata - local for plugins.txt for example.
The contents of the root folder, the contents of the mod manager etc, respecting the paths.
The problem is that on the laptop as soon as I launch F4SE it crashes automatically even with F4.exe and the launcher.
I am on windows 10 with my pc and my laptop is a windows 11.
I would like to point out that I have already done this with my old pc which was on a windows 7 that I copied to my current pc which is a windows 10 and it worked correctly.
I apologize for my English which is not my native language.
If you have any questions don't hesitate.
My pc : i7 2600k - gtx 1080 ti 8go gddr5 - ram 16go ddr3 - windows 10 -> F4 work with mods
My laptop : i9 12900h - rtx 3070 ti laptop 8go gddr6 - ram 16go ddr5 - windows 11 -> F4 ctd
Thanks :)

I suspect that in the copy/paste operation, some information is missing. On windows 10/11, I like to create a separate directory for games/steam, OUTSIDE of any of the program files folders. (they are protected folders, and win 11 is really anal about that..... not to mention windows defender.....)

Get the base game working first, then start installing mods. Yeah, I know, it's an exercise, especially if you use a lot of mods..... but, in the end, it will likely be easier than trying to beat the current install into submission.

Hi,

That's what I did, I uninstalled everything and started over step by step.

- Fallout 4 -> mod manager -> F4SE -> some little mods -> enbdev -> ENB Preset -> then crash. The problem was the 'dxgi.dll' of the ENB Preset

Without this file, the game run perfectly with all the mod but the ENB Preset doesn't work anymore. I will try to find a solution for the dxgi.dll

Thanks for your reply

dxgi.dll is not part of the ENB "runtime".

Those are d3dll.dll and d3dcompiler_46e.dll.

If you have an older version of dxgi.dll floating around in an ENB-folder (because of the copying from Win10), I would check if there is a version crash on Win11.

Windows has its own versions of dxgi.dll in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64.

The version in System32 is the 64-bit version and the version in SysWOW64 is the 32-bit version.

(Yeah, I know, it is strange, but that is MS commitment to backwards compability, makes for confusing shite).

Is the ENB screaming for a particular version (64/32) or just old?

(I know nothing about details in an ENB preset).

Cheers,

DK

Hi,

I made a mistake on my previous post, the preset works very well, just the ReShade is broken because of the dxgi.

I can give you the dxgi.dll on my W10 pc or directly from the ENB Preset folder.

My pc and my laptop are both 64-bit versions.

No particular details about the version (64/32) in the preset description in my memory.

Thank you very much for these clarifications.

What ENB + ReShade preset are you using?

Do you have a Nexus-link?

Edit:

Both dxgi.dll files are the same, and they are both renamed versions of a REALLY old ReShade64.dll.

You could try the following:

1. Make sure that you have the latest version of F4se.

2. Make sure that you have the latest ENB.

3. Download the latest ReShade setup file

4. Do not run the setup file.

Extract it with 7-zip to a temp work folder.

5. Rename ReShade64.dll to dxgi.dll

Replace the dxgi files in you FO4 and ENB folder with this.

(Make a backup of the dxgi.dll before overwriting).

This may work, I guess it depends on how old this ReShade preset is.

The game does not crash anymore with the new dxgi.dll

However, the ReShade still remains broken and does not display what it should display as well as the shortcuts.
