nachtefuchs
Minor Main Quest Spoiler follows: (Just covering myself in-case someone actually hasn't done it yet :P) .. if Jearl's House was safe to use as your own? For clarification on what I mean: During the Main Quest, you are sent to eliminate spies in Bruma and eventually you enter Jearl's house. In order to finish the quest, you have to eliminate both occupants of the house, effectively leaving it empty for the rest of the game. I, for one, would love to be able to use it. And why not? It has a hidden exit/entrance to Bruma and a pretty nice cave/basement for all sorts of goodies to be put. It'd also be a damn nice reward for actually completing the quest, too. I'm not certain, but I think the crates/cases etc... aren't safe to put things in. Also, the contents of the house are free to take and the Beds are unowned. It would be great to see if this mod could be made - it doesn't seem to be hard to do (For someone who knows the CS, anyway :P) As a side note, if anyone wants to do more than make the containers safe, here are some extra ideas that would make things a bit more 'normal': -Add a map marker once the Spies quest section is completed (IE: after you tell Jauffre that both spies are dead)-only make the containers safe once the Spies quest section is completed (IE: after you tell Jauffre that both spies are dead)-There is a single locked chest in the house, make it need Jearl's Key to be unlocked. Slawter500
well you could use the console to set the ownership to yourself but it does it by cell. You could use it on the bed and the containers and i think you'd be able to use them, not certain though
LFact
For containers, respawning has nothing to do with ownership. So, if you want to make them non-respawning, one possible way is:- Make duplicated containers, set them non-respawning.- Place them in the house, make them 'persistent reference, inisially disabled'. Setting one parent object would be good. Also you need to make already existing containers 'persistent reference'.- Use quest and script to disable all respawning containers, enable non-respawning containers. ChalkLine
If you like, I can make you a quick .esp that sets the house and its containers to 'Player Faction'. After you've dealt with Jearl, just activate the .esp and you'll be set. It wouldn't take any more than ten minutes to make. I'd have your PC break in, explore the house and accompanying stuff, then leave Bruma and save. Exit, activate the .esp and re-enter Bruma and everything should be tagged as yours and non-respawning. Conversely, it's very easy to do in the construction set, you may want to try it yourself; - Open the CS.- Go to 'File' (top left corner), click 'Data' in the drop down menu and a pop up screen opens. Tick 'Oblivion' and hit 'Okay'.- Wait for the data to load, it takes a bit.- In the lower right is the 'Cell View' window. Click in the list of interiors (the first one should say 'Abandoned Mine') and type 'bru'. This will send you straight to Bruma. Scroll down until you get to 'BrumaJearlsHouse'. Double click on it. It should now appear in the Render Window.- Click on the bar at the top of the Render Window (you should do this whenever you're moving between the three windows).- It's too dark. Push 'A' on the keyboard, this turns the lights on.- Click once somewhere on the tiny little blob that is Jearl's House, then push 'T' on the keyboard. This gives you a top view of what you just selected by clicking on it. You may want to mouse scroll back a bit.- Now we're in business. Everything in that cell is laid out for you and ready to manipulate. However, the cell still belongs to Jearl (the cheek of the woman!). Click on the very top bar of the screen (this gets you out of the render window) and then click 'World'. Click 'Cells' in the drop down menu and a pop up menu appears. The cell you are working in is grey-highlighted. Click once one it.- Now hit the tab in the pop up screen called 'Interior Data'. It currently says 'Mythic Dawn', but not for long matey! Click on the drop down tab beside 'Mythic Dawn' and all the options appear. If you type 'pl' one the keyboard it'll zoom straight to 'Player Faction'. Select this. Hit the 'Apply' Button and you've made a change.- A quick interlude: You haven't changed the game at all, you've just made a command (to reset ownership) when that .esp is operating. Don't be concerned that you've just wrecked the game forever. Now is the time to save. You will have to name your .esp, something snappy like 'NFIOwnJearlsHouse0dot01' NF being your tag, so all your .esps are together on the list for easy access, the rest to say what it does, and the last to tell you what evolution the .esp is, because this is addictive stuff.- Back to work. The cell on the list below 'BrumaJearlsHouse' is 'BrumaJearlsHouseBasement'. Give it the same treatment.- Back to the Cell Window (don't forget to click the top bar first to get into the window).- You have your list of cells, which doesn't interest us now, and the list of objects inside the cell, which does. The first object on the list is 'BarrelClutterMiddle03'. If you double click on it, the Render Window zooms in on the barrel (handy, eh?).- You want to have that barrel not respawn. Unfortunately, you can't turn spawning off on individual barrels, you must make a new object that is similar but doesn't spawn. This is actually really easy, but there is one pitfall. If you just change the barrel not to spawn, every barrel that is a 'BarrelClutterMiddle03' will not respawn in the game while your .esp is running. Annoying, eh?- So, we do this: Go to the Object Window (on the right of the screen) and click on 'WorldObjects' to open the tree, then click on 'Container', then 'Clutter', then 'MiddleClass' and in the list you'll see 'BarrelClutterMiddle03'. Ah HAH! Our quarry is in sight!- Double click on 'BarrelClutterMiddle03' in this list (not the one from the render window, that refers just to that individual barrel).- Now, this is important: Change the listing in 'ID" from 'BarrelClutterMiddle03' to 'NFBarrelClutterMiddle03'. Untick the 'respawns' checkbox and hit OK. A pop up will appear saying:Create New Object?Old ID: 'BarrelClutterMiddle03' New ID: 'NFBarrelClutterMiddle03'Create New Form?- Click 'Yes'- Now, to change the barrel in the cell to your barrel. Go to 'Edit' in the top bar, and hit 'Search & Replace'. As you've selected the object you want to change, it's already in the top field. Scroll until you get to your 'NFBarrelClutterMiddle03' (type 'NF' into the drop down screen to get there quickly). Check the box 'current cell only' and hit okay. The nice program tells you how many changes it made, to set your mind at ease. Do this with all the containers in the cells.- Still, we're modding here, so we have to be thorough. In the Render Window you can see two yellow blocks with odd little purple pyramids attached that are invisible when you play in-game, these are door markers (I call them 'ducks') that show where you appear when you use a door. Using the shift or space bar along with the mouse to move around the render window (remember you can click on its reference in the cell window if you get frustrated), double click on the one over the trap door.- A wonderful little pop up appears saying 'View door reference for this door marker?'. Click Yes.- You're now transported to 'BrumaJearlsHouseBasement', where you can go through the process of checking again.- Follow the door markers until you're happy that you own everything.- Save finally. The first time it may take about half an hour, the second time maybe ten minutes, after that you can do them in seconds. Have fun!

I may try it myself (using a different house, or even make my own house if I go that far), so thanks for showing me what to do :D
ChalkLine
No worries, now I just have to get it to you. Any ideas on how I can transfer a file people? I hardly think it's worth putting up on the nexus sharer. You can't upload those files here. In fact, I forgot to mention you have to change the ownership of doors as well (just double click on them in the render window, and go to the ownership tab) so you would have run into difficulties there. Don't be discouraged by your CM Partners attempt, that's not as easy as it sounds. I get NPCs wrong, as well do a lot of other people.
