Vortex Not Working - Reinstall every time

For some reason, today, Vortex stopped working with Nexus Mods. I download a mod file from Nexus, a popup comes up and tells me to choose the application I want to open it. I choose Vortex. It then makes me reinstall vortex onto windows completely. Ok, so I do the reinstall. Then the mod I tried to download isn't even in Vortex. So I figure I have to redownload the mod into the new install of vortex. I go back to the mod file and download it again. I then get a pop up asking me to choose the application I want to open the mod. i choose Vortex. It then tells me to install vortex onto windows. lol. Round and round it goes.

Why would this be happening?

Thanks

It really sounds like you picked the wrong EXE. Try going to Settings -> Download and turning the option to handle downloads off and back on again.

If you're using Firefox it does things in a very awkward way, so you'll have to fix it here: https://modding.wiki/en/vortex/users/download-from-nexusmods#i-have-the-option-enabled-in-vortex-but-downloads-still-go-to-the-wrong-appdont-start

You need to make sure you're pointing to C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\Vortex.exe

It is working again. I don't know why it stopped before, but i went into settings as you suggested and set vortex to be the default handler. Thanks so much.
