80sReco Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 My game was fine until I updated to 1.9. For awhile I was using an install of 1.8 which worked absolutely flawlessly and now my game cant go five minute without a crash. When I checked the folders and Files under properties they are listed as "Read Only" and when I change this attribute and check back again a second later they have been reset back to "Read Only" and I'm wondering if this is the problem. If so how do I fix this? I am using Windows 8.
GrizzlyUK Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Where have you installed Steam and it's games? Default installation or custom (changed the install path)?

Georgiegril Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Have you tried reassigning "use as an administrator" to steam and skyrim (not sure exactly how this works in windows 8)

Georgiegril Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 In Windows 7 you right click on the icon. I have the barest of knowledge about Windows 8, sorry. If you can get into the program properties menu somehow, it would also be under security.

I can confirm that. But as to why it re-checks them as Read Only is beyond me. I never used to have problems like this.
Georgiegril Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Assigning "run as administrator" to the program is separate from using an admin account. Even when your account has admin privileges your still need to assign run as administrator to the program.A quick google search brought me to this link, which may help you.

I've decided to reinstall my game back to the 1.8 configuration as opposed to 1.9 since the stability was absolutely perfect. The mods I needed SKSE for are trivial and I can make due without them so I will just press on like I did a few weeks ago. Thank you for your help, even though it did not resolve my problem.
GrizzlyUK Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Try moving your entire Steam installation to another location, that way you'll be avoiding the UAC which is what I suspect is resetting your folders to "Read Only". Alternatively you may just want to disable UAC in Windows 8 instead.
